AEW Collision: Homecoming

Tony Schiavone and Nigel McGuinness are on the call, and here comes the Golden Star.

Match #1. Kota Ibushi vs. Josh Alexander

Shoulder block by Alexander and a DVD attempt, but Ibushi fights out. Dropkick by Ibushi that sends Alexander to the floor, where Ibushi follows up with a plancha. Roundhouse kicks now by Ibushi, but Alexander catches one and wraps the leg around the ring post. DDT on the floor by Alexander as we go to commercial break! Back from commercial and Alexander misses a corner charge, allowing Ibushi to hit a powerslam. Dragon suplex by Ibushi! Leg lariat by Ibushi and a standing moonsault for a two count. Ibushi wants a powerbomb but Alexander counters with an ankle lock. Ibushi rolls through, sending Alexander into the corner. Rolling elbow by Alexander and a spinning Argentine Bomb! Two count. Alexander heads up top and misses a pair of knees. High kick by Ibushi and a half-and-half suplex. Ibushi calls for the driving knees and he gets it! Two count. Alexander rolls to the apron as Ibushi tries to follow up with a pump kick, but Alexander is there with an elbow and a powerslam ON the apron! Big rolling elbow back inside the ring by Alexander! Two count. Alexander goes up top and Ibushi follows. Alexander tries to put Ibushi on his shoulders but both men lose their balance and Ibushi takes a very awkward fall to the outside. The doctor checks on Ibushi as the referee counts Ibushi out.

Winner by Count Out: Josh Alexander

Rating: NA. Honestly, tough to rate this one knowing what happened to Ibushi. The fall actually did not look bad at all, but those are the breaks. Hopefully he’s able to heal up and take care of himself.

After the match, Don Callis grabs the mic and he’s got something important to tell us. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU MESS WITH THE FAMILY. Mark Davis is here to pound on Ibushi, somehow. Kenny Omega’s music hits and he’s here with a trash can, disposing of Davis and hitting the V-Trigger on Alexander.

Match #2. Big Bill & Bryan Keith vs. Anthony Bowens & Max Caster

Bowens and Caster exchange angry tags early, as Caster steps on one of Bowens plaques. Shoulder blocks by Bowens to Keith. Facebuster by Bowens as Caster chants for him, but maybe he’s chanting for himself, instead. Bill comes in and Bowens immediately tags Caster. Now Caster tags him back. Bowens tags Caster back in and he gets splashed in the corner. Sunset flip attempt by Caster but Bowens made a blind tag. Fameasser by Bowens! Bowens and Caster are at opposite ends of the ring… are we scissoring? Nope, Bill pulls Bowens outside before throwing him into the guard rail and double teaming Caster. Commercial. Back from break and Caster misses a chop, hitting the ring post. Caster ducks a clothesline from Bill who winds up posting himself, allowing Caster to slide in and hit a Death Valley Driver on Keith for two. Bowens and Caster get into a spat in the middle of the ring as Bill tries to attack from behind, but he gets dumped to the outside. Keith tries to attack from the other side but it’s the MOLLYWOP for the win.

Winners: Max Caster & Anthony Bowens

Rating: **. Not as much of a match as it is a storyline, but the eventual payoff should help everyone involved. This wasn’t bad, it was just… there.

The Bang Bang Gang are in the back, but Big Bill and Bryan Keith interrupt them by destroying the backstage area after their loss. Bill tells Juice the last time they were in the ring that he beat his ass. Ace Austin challenges them to a fight. And.. we’re on.

Match #3. TayJay vs. Carolina Cruz & Dream Girl Ellie

Double knees and a.. double hip bump? By TayJay. Double superkicks by TayJay and a pair of pump kicks. Stomps in the corner by Melo. Running leg lariat in the corner by Jay. Gory Bomb by Jay into a knee from Melo and this one is over.

Winner: TayJay

Rating: NR

The Conglomagon (I made this up just now so I’m using this going forward and you can’t stop me) are with Lexy Nair. Roddy isn’t part of the group, but he wants to get his hands on Moxley. Mark Briscoe is back at the farm, so Willow does her best Mark Briscoe.

The Death Riders aren’t happy with Darby Allin, especially after he attacked Jon Moxley at Comic-Con.

Match #4. Toni Storm, Harley Cameron, & Kris Statlander vs. Triangle of Madness

Hair biel by Storm to Thekla and here we go. Basement superkick by Thekla and a Thesz Press by Storm. Backbreaker by Storm and Cameron gets the tag, but she gets elbows in the face and thrown in the TOM corner. Cameron is out with a shotgun dropkick and a big splash in the corner. Russian leg sweep by Cameron and a senton atomico by Statlander, before Statlander tilt a whirl slams Cameron on top of Skye Blue. Delayed vertical suplex by Statlander gets two. Body slam to Blue. Blue throws Statlander into the turnbuckle and tags Hart… who gets powerslammed. Storm in now, working over the arm of Hart. Quick tags all around. Blue trips up Cameron from the outside and that allows Hart to plant her with a DDT. Commercial break. Cameron is in trouble as the TOM are making quick tags and cutting off the ring. Soul Food by Cameron allows her to make the tag to Storm. Shotgun dropkick to Blue. One for Hart. Sky High to Blue! Two count. Storm thinks Storm Zero but Blue counters with a hook kick to the face. Rising knee by Blue and an STO by Hart. Double gordbuster is countered into a double suplex by Storm. Statlander gets the tag! Running knees and pump kicks to everyone. Inverted neckbreaker to Hart and a back suplex to Blue on to Hart. Two count. Assisted back suplex into a facebuster with the help from Harley Cameron. Back stabber by Cameron. German suplex by Storm to Thekla. Double shoulder blocks to Blue and Storm and Statlander have a meeting of the minds in the middle of the ring. Uh oh. Cameron posts Thekla and rolls her up for two. Thekla bridges out of a clothesline and spider walks… spear to Cameron! That’ll do it.

Winners: Triangle of Madness

Rating: ***. Triangle of Madness looked good here, and being that they are a legitimate trio, they needed the win.

Kenny Omega wonders why this never ends? There’s a knock at the door. It’s Jack Perry! Perry says he understands why Omega doesn’t want to see him, but he’s sorry about what happened to Ibushi. Perry says he’s got Omega’s back. What? Omega reminds me that he took him out. Perry says there’s nothing he can do to change that, but they have some of the same enemies.

MXMTV are here and it’s a casting call. Last week, the Don Callis Family answered it, and they failed. But, the casting call continues tonight. Where’s that street walking announcer? The opponents are…

Match #5. Trios Match: MXMTV vs. La Faccion Ingobernable

Corkscrew kick by Dralistico to Johnny TV. Monsoor gets the tag and gets mat returned. Sammy tags himself in and backflips over Mansoor and hits the corkscrew kick. Madden comes in and clears the LFI apron, before eating a superkick from Sammy. Madden doesn’t care and powerbombs Sammy. Dralistico and Rush attack from behind and then double dropkick Madden in the back of the head. Dralistico with a hurricanrana to TV off the apron, despite hitting his own head on the corner of the ring. Taya Valkyrie with one of her own behind the referee’s back. Leg lariat by Madden to Sammy, and now to Rush ducks and eats the top rope. Enziguiri by Dralistico and a snap German suplex by Rush. Springboard Code Breaker to Mansoor. Bull’s Horns! Sammy gets the tag and finishes this with the swanton. Sammy, however, is slow to get up and slow to make the pin, looking like he hurt himself somehow in the process.

Winners: La Faccion Ingobernable

Rating: *3/4. Not much more than a squash, but it was entertaining.

Eddie Kingston’s music hits, so here we go.

Match #6. Eddie Kingston vs. The Beast Mortos

Shoulder block off the middle turnbuckle by Kingston, and Mortos retreats. Enziguiri by Mortos and a runing shoulder block in the corner. Arm ringer by Mortos and a commercial break. We’re back as Mortos is in control. Chops by Mortos and a big lariat. Two count. Mortos drops the kneepad and misses a running corner charge, sending him to the floor. Suicide dive by Kingston! Back in the ring, Rude Awakening by Kingston. Kingston thinks about a lariat but Mortos bites the hand. Eddie bites him back and both guys break. Mortos hits the ropes and spears Kingston. Two count. Mortos goes up top and misses a twisting moonsault. Exploder by Kingston! Spinning backfist by Kingston and that’ll do it.

Winner: Eddie Kingston

Rating: **1/2. Matches don’t have to be long to be great, but this was about a seven-minute match with a three-and-a-half-minute commercial. These guys deserved more time because what was got was pretty damn good.

Alicia Atout is with the Triangle of Madness but Queen Aminata and Jamie Hater attack them until security shows up and separates everyone.

Katsuyori Shibata challenges Rush and LFI next week, putting the trios titles on the line.

Match #7. Mixed Trios Match: Top Gods vs. JetSpeed & Willow Nightingale

Body slam by Willow and some forever lariats in the corner. Dax gets the tag, as does Kevin Knight. Knight with a big lariat and a dropkick, before coming off the top with a springboard dropkick. Forever clothesline to Dax in the corner. Roundhouse kicks by Bailey to Dax and a cannonball by Willow! Knight covers for two. Bailey wants a sunset flip on Dax but Dax holds his ground, until Knight comes off the top with a springboard clothesline! Two count. Running Shooting Star by Bailey gets two. Cash pulls Knight off the apron and throws him into the guardrail. Bayne is in with a fall away slam to Bailey! Brainbuster by Dax to Bailey as Bayne takes out Knight with a suicide dive! Bailey fights out of the Top Gods corner and comes off the middle with a twisting tornado DDT! Bailey crawls to Willow but Cash dives on the leg, before tagging Bayne. Bayne with a stalling suplex to Bailey. Shouldn’t Willow have to come in now? Forearm by Bayne and a high angle German! Bayne misses a corner charge and Willow has to tag in… so does Dax? What’s happening, here. Willow fires on Dax, and now Cash! Running splash to Dax and an enziguiri. Dropkick by Knight and a spinebuster by Willow! Knight moonsauls off the top to the floor! Willow and Dax jockey for suplexes but Bayne hits Willow from behind, allowing Dax to get a roll up for two. Willow chops down Bayne and thinks Doctor Bomb but Penelope Ford is here… only to get pounced! Dragon screw by Willow to Bayne now now a single leg crab. JetSpeed are here too, everyone gets a half Crab! Double plancha by JetSpeed! Clotheslines by Willow in the corner but Ford hits her from the apron. Doomsday Device by Ford and Bayne to Willow behind the referee’s back! One, two, three!

Winners: TopGods

Rating: ***. Well this one was fun. The stipulations didn’t hold up but the match was fun, and we’re probagly getting a Willow and Bayne match at some point.

Ford and Bayne put the boots to Willow but Harley Camera, chain and guitar handle in hand… make the save.

Final Thoughts: Kind of a dark cloud over tonight’s show with the injury to Ibushi. That said, I was surprised they showed the match at all but now that I’ve seen it, I kind of get it. WrestleDream is pretty much set in stone so this episode served as a teaser. The Toni Storm/Kris Statlander match got a little more interesting, but there wasn’t too much we didn’t expect on this show. 7.0/10.
