Match #1. AEW World Trios Championship: The Opps (c) vs. The Hurt Syndicate
Shibata and Benjamin trade some excellent technical wrestling exchanges to start. Lashley comes in and so does Hobbs, but Joe tags himself in. Flying forearm in the corner by Joe but Lashley is back with a Complete Shot. Benjamin in now and he comes off the top, Joe walks away, but Benjamin lands on his feet and we reset. Hobbs gets the tag and clotheslines Benjamin over the top. Big knee to the face by Benjamin on Joe. Powerslam by Hobbs and a senton to Benjamin. Commercial. Benjamin is isolated and Shibata is putting the boots to him in the corner, before Joe comes in and does much of the same. Snap mare and a chin lock by Joe. Benjamin fires back some right hands and spikes Joe with a pendulum DDT. Shibata and Lashley get tags and Lashley tosses him with a belly-to-belly. Neckbreaker by Lashley. Dominator by Lashley! Two count. Hobbs cuts Lashley off and it’s a meat fest, baby. Both guys trade lefts and rights until Lashley sends Hobbs over the top, but Shibata is legal and a PK to Lashley gets two. MVP and Joe now in. Joe goes to the eyes. MVP goes to the throat. BALLLINNNNNN elbow drop! Two count. Spinebuster by Hobbs to Benjamin. Spinebuster by Lashley to Hobbs. MVP tries to hit his swinging neckbreaker on Joe but Ricochet gets on the apron and Joe locks in the Coquina Clutch!
Winners and STILL AEW World Trios Champions: The Opps
Rating: **3/4. A fine opener here, I just don’t know how that these two teams mesh all that well.
Tony Schiavone hits the ring and wants to know what the heck is going on with Samoa Joe? Why Joe, why? Joe says that the fat San Antonio women keep Powerhouse Hobbs occupied. If you’re a champion… Joe is going to hunt you down. Joe will prove to you that you are not that man. Joe knocks all the sports teams in Texas and says that The Opps are never lacking.
Kris Statlander is with Renee. Mercedes, Kris Statlander is the AEW Women’s World Champion. Are you? Statlander beat Toni Storm. Have you? Full Gear. Women’s World Championship vs. TBS Championship? Statlander accepts.
Darby Allin is in the ring with the flag that he planted on Mount Everest. Darby is willing to do to places for this company that no one else will go. Darby will DIE for this place. The marks on Darby’s body tell a story, and he’s wearing the scares, despite not saying “I Quit.” Darby knows the Death Riders aren’t going to go away and as long as they’re breathing, Darby isn’t far behind.
Match #2. Four-Way Tag Team Match: Harley Cameron & Willow Nightingale vs. Triangle of Madness vs. Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford vs. Queen Aminata & Jamie Hayter
The winners of this match get to choose their first-round opponent in the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship Tournament, so there’s a lot on the line here. Shoulder in the corner by Bayne to Cameron. Double suplex attempt with Ford but Willow makes the save. Cameron tags Hayter and here we go. Hayter and Bayne and it’s meattttt festtttttt but the women’s version. Boot by Hayter and a snap suplex attempt but Bayne blocks it, only to eat a lariat in the corner. Double suplex by Bayne to both women. Bayne with a moonsault off the ring top to the floor as Bayne connects with a suicide dive. Commercial. Julia Hart goes old school on Aminata before tagging Blue. Aminata fights out of a double team and elbows everyone in the face, tagging Willow. Clotheslines by Willow Big boot by Willow and a spinebuster to Blue. Two count. Bayne blocks the Dr. Bomb, dragging Blue to her corner and making her tag Ford. Assisted cutter by Bayne and Ford on Willow gets two. Doomsday Device attempt but Willow escapes and pounces Bayne. Hayer makes the blind tag and attacks Willow from behind. Double back elbow by Hayter and Aminata. Double big boot to Ford. Headbutt/Hayterade combo finishes this one.
Winners: Jamie Hayter & Queen Aminata
Rating: **1/2. I don’t much like this many teams in a multi-person match, but this one was done quite well and kept kind of short.
Hayter thinks tag team wrestling is fantastic. Hayter wants Skye Blue and Julia Hart in the first round, and they’ve got it.
The Young Bucks are outside Tony Khan’s office, and they want another money match. Tony actually opens the door, and they’ll team with anyone? And they’ll fight anyone? The Bucks fight… the Jurassic Express. And JetSpeed. $400,000 in a four-on-four All Star match on Collision, and the Bucks will team with… FTR. Sounds great. The holidays are coming up, so Stokely gives Nick a few bucks.
Renee is in the ring, ready to introduce Mercedes Mone and the parade of belts. However, puppet Mercedes Mone is here instead. You dumb marks want to mock Mone, after everything she’s done for this company? Mone calls Harley pathetic, Harley (ahem*), who is underneath the table and we can’t see her. Tonight is about Mone. Mone grabs the puppet and Cameron comes out from underneath the table, but Statlander is here from behind and she drops her face-first through the cake, before hitting a uranage through the table!
A video package of Jon Moxley and Darby Allin’s “I Quit” match from WrestleDream is shown. Jon Moxley doesn’t make excuses, says Darby Allin’s strength is what powered him through, and says he’s going to work.
Match #3. Kyle O’Reilly w/ The Conglomeration vs. Jon Moxley w/ Marina Shafir
Kyle with a kimura sweep early, that Moxley eventually counters into a straight armbar. Kyle transitions into a seatbelt-like cover but he only gets a one count. Flying armbar by Kyle but Moxley gets to the ropes and shoves Kyle to the floor as we go to commercial. Back from break, and Kyle flies off the apron with a dropkick to Moxley, who was seated in a chair on the floor. Back in the right, roundhouse kicks by Kyle, forearms by Moxley. Kitchen sink by Kyle, palm strikes, and a low leg trip. Flying forearm in the corner by Kyle and a jumping guillotine choke. Kyle transitions into a triangle choke, but Moxley brings him underneath the bottom rope and catapults him into the rope. Both guys on the apron now, trading strikes. Arm ringer by Kyle on the apron! Diving knee to the back of the leg by Kyle, and a straight ankle lock. Regal knee to the back of the head by Kyle gets two. Moxley snatches a kimura trap and Kyle counters into an ankle lock. Moxley into a bulldog choke but Kyle fights out into a straight armbar. Moxley barely gets out and drills Kyle with a lariat. Big piledriver by Moxley! Two count. Moxley jumps right into the bulldog choke and Kyle gets to the rope. Kyle evades a stomp and chop blocks the knee. Rolling elbow by Kyle. Big boot by Moxley. Rebound lariat by Kyle is blocked as Moxley underhooks the arms, but Kyle drops down into an ankle pick! Iminari roll right into a straight ankle lock! Moxley gets to the ropes but grabs referee Paul Turner and elbows him in the face! The other referee’s race to the ring, so does The Conglomeration and the Death Riders.
Winner: Kyle O’Reilly via DQ
Rating: ***1/2. Excellent technical wrestling back and forth, which is the exact opposite of what we saw from Moxley over the weekend. Kyle is one of the most underrated wrestlers in the world today (think modern day Bobby Eaton), so to see him get Moxley in trouble and even get a win, albeit via DQ, is very cool.
Match #4. Trios Match: The Conglomeration vs. The Death Riders
Cassidy with a pair of arm drags to Yuta before both men trade about a dozen pinning combinations. Garcia gets the tag and wrestles through Cassidy. Roddy is in now, as is Claudio. Running European uppercut by Claudio, but he runs into a leg lariat. Half-and-half backbreaker to Garcia, who made his presence known. Back suplex to Yuta on the guard rail on the floor! Spicy dropkick to Claudio but Claudio catches him, momentarily, and now a back suplex on the guard rail for Claudio. Yuta trips up Roddy on the apron and that allows Claudio to gorilla press him hard on the guard rail. Commercial time. Back from break and Roddy is in trouble, getting tosses by Claudio with a gut wrench. Olympic Slam by Roddy to Claudio and a tag, reluctantly, to Cassidy. Double dropkick to Yuta and Garcia and a kip up, right into a chop from Claudio. Stundog Millionaire! Suicide dive takes out Garcia. Briscoe in with some Redneck Kung Fu. Enziguiri to Claudio. Hard chops to Yuta. Boot off the apron by Briscoe to Garcia and a TWISTING MOONSAULT OFF THE TOP TO THE FLOOR!? Fisherman’s Buster to Yuta back inside the ring. Two count. Yuta blocks a Jay Driller and Garcia locks in a guillotine, so Roddy hits a sick kick on him. Mat return by Claudio on Roddy. Pop-up European to Cassidy. High boot by Briscoe to Cladio. German suplex by Yuta to Briscoe. Busaiku Knee but Roddy makes the save! Hammer and Anvil elbows to Briscoe, but Briscoe counters with a lariat. Jay Driller! One, two, three!
Winners: The Conglomeration
Rating: ***3/4. Such a fun trios match. Briscoe is really being positioned as a big deal in this company, and the crowd loves it. There’s some issues with the Death Riders and we haven’t really seen that, yet.
Pac hits the ring to attack Briscoe, but Ishii is here to even it out. Marina Shafir hits the ring and low blows Ishii from behind. Kyle O’Reilly is back to save Ishii but the numbers are too much. Claudio threatens to throw Cassidy from the ring through the announcer’s table, but Darby is here and he clips Claudio from behind with the baseball bat!
Mercedes runs into Alicia Atout, covered in cake. Mercedes is clearly upset, but Athena is here and offers her a truce. Mone and Athena entering the tag team tournament? You bet.
Briscoe says that when you get older, you’ll realize you don’t have to talk so much. Briscoe did his work tonight but he couldn’t listen to him anymore. Briscoe doesn’t need a million more opportunities, he just needs one. Don Callis says Mark Briscoe is a great wrestler, and a great athlete. Mark sounds desperate tonight, ten kids at home? How do you focus? Briscoe doesn’t have a family, he has a financial burden. Briscoe needs a family like the Don Callis Family. Callis is going to tell him what he needs to hear, and the answer is no.
Match #5. AEW Unified Championship: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Bandido
Quick action to start. Military press attempt by Bandido but Okada lands on his feet. Okada tries a Rainmaker but Bandido goes finger guns. Outside the ring, Okada cuts Bandido off and focuses the attack on the arm. Okada now beats on Bandido right in front of his family. Step-up arm drag by Bandido as we go to commercial. Back from break, and Okada hits the falling elbow drop from the top. Bandido ducks the Rainmaker and hits a tornillo from the top. Suicide dive from Bandido, and a follow up tope con hilo to the floor! Back in the ring, Bandido hits a leg lariat and a frog splash from the top. One, two, no! Okada now rolls to the apron and pulls Bandido through the ropes, hitting his shoulder and neck. Okada looks for the tombstone now, but changes his mind and hits the shoulder breaker, focusing on that shoulder and neck. Bandido rolls outside to chat with the doctor, but Okada doesn’t care and he pulls him back in the ring. Tombstone attempt but Bandido gets free. X-Knee attempt but Okada lands on his feet, so Bandido hits the spinning backfist. X-Knee by Bandido! 21 Plex! Bandido is down and he can’t get to the cover, and when he does, he only gets two. Okada tries a sunset flip powerbomb but Bandido counters with a hurricanrana. Bandido thinks 21 Plex but Okada hits the dropkick in the face. Bandido counters a Rainmaker with a cradle for two! Bandido charges in the corner but Okada gets a pair of boots up that drops him. Bandido hits his own Rainmaker! Crowd is going insane! X-Knee! 21 PLEX but Okada moves away from the ropes, Bandido front flips and lands on his feet, and Okada drills him with the Rainmaker!
Winner and STILL AEW Unified Champion: Kazuchika Okada
Rating: ****. Oh man, what a finishing stretch. The story of the match was Bandido’s injured knee and how he would overcome it, and he did, but Okada was just too darn smart, and too darn good.
The Don Callis Family is here to celebrate, except Konosuke Takeshita, who makes his own entrance.
Final Thoughts: Really strong episode of Dynamite after a big PPV. The women’s tag team tournament is going to give us a lot to look forward to, Jon Moxley and the Death Riders are dealing with some adversity, the Conglomeration is Conglomerating, Okada and Takeshita seem prime to do battle sooner rather than later… there is a lot of good wrestling to look forward to in AEW right now, even though they are missing guys like Swerve, Adam Cole, MJF, Will Ospreay… just to name a few. 8.75/10.Â
