AEW Dynamite 8/20/25
AEW comes to us tonight from The Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland and here’s… Bryan Danielson! The “American Dragon” has joined the commentary table tonight, alongside Excalibur and Tony Schiavone.
Will Ospreay is here and he recounts a story of the last time he was in Glasgow, when the promoter didn’t want to put him up in a hotel and he went out drinking and got some Greg’s Sausage Rolls, and the fans pop and immediately chant SAUSAGE, SAUSAGE, ROLLS… SAUSAGE, SAUSAGE ROLLS.
Ospreay says he’s let his fans down here not wrestling, and they’re not just people, they’re his people. Ospreay says as of last week, he wasn’t cleared for Forbidden Door. This is the first time Ospreay’s felt human, he’s not an alien. Lights Out means no rules, means unsanctioned, so AEW isn’t going to be held accountable for whatever happens. Period. This is on Ospreay. They will tear the Death Riders apart in the name of revenge. Before they take a scalpel to Ospreay, he will take a pound of flesh from Jon Moxley.
Here comes Jon Moxley with Marina Shafir. Moxley gets right in the face of Will Ospreay as Claudio and Yuta surround the ring. Ospreay says he’s coming for Moxley on Sunday, and if he wants to get rid of him, he should do it himself. JetSpeed hit the ring, followed by the ACE of New Japan, Hiroshi Tanahashi! Looks like we’re having this match right now!
Match #1. Trios Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi & JetSpeed vs. The Death Riders
Dragon screw by Tanahashi and a tag to Speedball. Roundhouse kicks to Yuta and a spinning back kick. Running Shooting Star Press gets two. Yuta traps a wrist and hits an Angle Slam for two. Claudio gets the tag and body slams the heck out of Speedball. Speedball mounts a comeback but gets tripped up by Marina Shafir, who gets ejected! Commercial time. Back from break and Kevin Knight is in the Death Riders corner, getting the heck stomped out of him. European uppercuts by Claudio but Knight fires back with a huge dropkick to the face. Thrust kick to Moxley. Tag to Tana! Flying forearms by Tana and a body slam to Yuta. Senton by Tana off the middle rope. Two count. Speedball sends Moxley to the outside and kicks him in the face off the apron. Enziguiri by Speedball to Claudio. Springboard moonsault off the top to Mox by Speedball! Springboard lariat by Knight to Claudio! Slingblade by Tana to Yuta. Everyone in the ring and it’s a triple team Twist & Shout! High Fly Flow by Knight and Speedball to the outside, but Gabe Kidd and the Bullet Club War Dogs hit the ring. Kidd crotches Tana behind the referee’s back. Yuta meets Tana on the top rope and looks for a superplex, as Will Ospreay brings a body bag back out. Maybe Marina? Double dives by JetSpeed to Moxley and Claudio. High Fly Flow to Yuta! One, two, three!
Winners: Hiroshi Tanahashi & JetSpeed
Rating: **3/4. The match was fine, but it’s all about the angle here, and the crowd ate it up ahead of Forbidden Door.
The War Dogs and the Death Riders hit the ring, putting the boots to JetSpeed and Tanahashi. 7 on 3 beat down in the middle of the ring right now. The Young Bucks sneak up on Ospreay and superkick him. Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong bring the Bucks to the back. Death Riders get the body bag but it’s not Marina, it’s Darby! Darby is like an animal, fighting everyone and ripping Claudio’s face off. The Opps are here! The fight spills all over the arena and Darby dives off… something insanely high.
Next up, Tony Schiavone welcomes Adam Copeland and Christian Cage to the ring… separately. Christian wants everyone to shut the hell up while he conducts business, but Copeland grabs the mic and tells him that the people love us. However, Christian is an asshole. But, sometimes, ya need an asshole. And Christian… is Adam’s asshole. Wait.
Christian said Adam told him to find himself. And he did. And Christian found that he doesn’t need to change a thing… Christian is perfect the way he is. They’re not on the same, but at least at this point, they’re writing in the same book. The people want a reunion of the greatest tag team of all time, but this is not a happy reunion, this is a reunion out of necessity. They have decided to help each other with their Nick and Kip, and FTR problems. Chrisitan won’t commit to anything beyond that. Christian gives Adam his word that this version of Christian Cage will be the best tag team partner he’s ever had. Copeland shakes on it!
Well, well, well, isn’t this cute? Chrisitan has been pandering to these fans he once despised, according to Kip Sabian. Mama Wayne is here, wondering who these people are to boo them? Nick Wayne appears on the tron. Let’s address last Wednesday. Christian did try to take Nick Wayne’s life, but instead, he broke his ankle. Wayne will be out for a few weeks, but he won’t be there on Sunday. Wayne says he’s always one step ahead.
LUCHASAURUS IS HERE.
Luchasaurus hits the ring, back in the green and black. Sabian tries to attack from behind but Christian dumps him, as Luchasaurus chokeslams Copeland. Chrisitan stares in the eyes of Luchasaurus, and he too, gets chokeslammed.
Mark Briscoe is in the back and MJF, he flew across the damn ocean to kill you, son.
MJF is in the back and he runs into Ricochet and the Gates of Agony. MJF doesn’t like Ricochet, and frankly, bald people freak him out, but Mark Briscoe annoys everyone, so Ricochet is in.
Match #2. Tag Team Tournament Finals: BroDido vs. FTR
Bandido uses his speed early, showing up Dax and making him miss. Cash in now and gets dropkicked in the face. Dax rushes back in and suffers the safe. FTR roll to the outside and Dax gets heated, taking a seat at ringside. Dax launches a chair in the ring, referee Paul Turner catches it and throws it back. Once again, and the same fate. Brody gets the tag and he shoves Cash down. Big chop drops Cash, and now Dax gets the tag. Brody eats a few elbows but one strike from Brody drops him. Cash jumps on the back of Brody, allowing Dax to hit him low and piledrive him. Brody is up! Double clothesline! Brody body slams Dax on Cash and then sentons them both. Bandido is in and he gets wheelbarrowed on top of Cash for two. Cash pulls Dax out of a Brody body slam and both guys send Brody to the outside, where he’s met by Big Stoke and his loaded cast. Brody is busted open! Back from break and Bandido is in with a head scissors to Cash and his version of Code Blue to Dax! Two count. Cash runs into a Bandido boot before dumping him over the top and to the floor, on top of Cash. FTR catch a Bandido dive and dump him face-first on the apron! Bandido gets thrown into the barricade on the outside and beat up by everyone. Back in the ring, Dax drills Bandido with a brainbuster and FTR hit the Demolition finisher. Two count. Dax tries to superplex Bandido but gets chopped off. Crossbody by Bandido gets two! Commercial time. Back with a double hurricanrana by Bandido to FTR, and a double DDT! Brody gets the tag and kills everyone. Double avalanche in the corner followed by a double cannonball! Low Down by Brody to Dax gets two, after Cash breaks it up. FTR gets sent to the floor and Brody comes off the apron with a double cannonball. Tope con hilo by Bandido! Brody crushes Cash against the guardrail with a crossbody! Stokely grabs Bandido’s boot, and puts his mask back on, the one that Stokely stole. Bandido goes up top and hits the big frog splash! 2.999. Brody gets posted on the outside by Cash, and then tornado DDT’d. Huge right hand from Dax to Bandido, followed by the Power and Glory, but Brody grabs Cash and choke him over the top rope! Bandido rolls Dax up for two. The Hurt Syndicate are watching in the back, by the way. Bandido gets dumped to the floor and Dax tries to back superplex Brody.. and he does! Cash flies in out of nowhere as they hit a version of the Power and Glory! One, two, no! Brody runs into the Shatter Machine but Bandido made a blind tag! Bandido with a victory roll gets two. Majistral gets two! Victory roll attempt by Bandido but Dax holds on and Cash comes off the top with an inverted Doomsday Device. Brody blocks a Shatter Machine attempt to Bandido, and he chokes Dax over the top rope with a rear naked choke. Dax brings him to the apron and Brody chops him down. Spike piledriver to Brody on the apron! Brody isn’t legal though and Bandido comes off the top with an Orihari moonsault! Bandido rolls Dax in and he counters the Shatter Machine with a huge DDT. Superkick by Bandido and a 21 Plex attempt, but Cash holds on to Dax! Bandido tries it on Cash, but Dax holds on to hi. Shatter Machien to Bandido! Brody breaks up the pin! One minute remaining! Crowd is on their feet! FTR look under the ring and grab a table, but there’s less than a minute left. Brody fights FTR off outside the ring and misses a crossbody block. Danielson makes an astute observation that Brody can’t even hear the announcements due to the bleeding, and that’s a fantastic call. Bandido evades a suicide dive from Cash, who flies through the table that was set up on the outside. The time has expired! Bandido doesn’t care and 21 Plexes Dax, counting the pin by himself.
Winner: Draw
Rating: ****1/2. Heck of an effort here. These guys beat the heck out of each other, left everything in the ring, and went all gas no breaks for a half hour. The table spot at the end didn’t make a lot of sense, but I can overlook that considering the match we got. Brody and Bandido working so well as a team is surprising, and awesome. As far as FTR… they’re top five all time, and even better as bad guys.
The Hurt Syndicate is here! They stare down everyone in the ring as we go to another break.

Hangman is here. Nothing underhanded this Sunday, but Page will shove his size 12 checkered print ostrich leather boots up MJF’s. ass. Page calls MJF to the ring, but instead, he pops up on the tron. If Hangman leaves the ring before MJF finishes, something bad is going to happen. MJF, Ricochet, and the Gates of Agony have Mark Briscoe tied up and bloodied. MJF has 3 requests for Sunday. Hangman doesn’t care and he wants blood. MJF pour gasoline all over Mark Briscoe and Page flips out, but here are the demands.
- Title can change hands on a DQ
- Title can change hands on a count out
- MJF does not have to use the contract in order to get his match at Forbidden Door
We’re about to find out if the fans like it when MJF lights things on fire, just like when Hangman does it. Page has to the count of five, as Kaun gives him a lighter. Page agrees to the demands and sprints to the back, as we go to break.
Match #3. Mercedes Mone & Athena vs. Toni Storm & Athena
Windsor takes over Mone to start, running her over with a shoulder tackle. Springboard arm drag by Mone, and a hard elbow to the chest. Double jump escalera by Mone, followed by the CEO dance. Cross body by Mone, Winsdor rolls through, and hits a fall away slam. Running back elbow in the corner and a tag to Toni Storm. Toni sniffs Mone and yells GET IN MAH BELLY, quoting Austin Powers from 30 years ago. Amazing. Athena tags herself in and backs Toni into the corner. Athena flips out of a clothesline and arm drags Storm. Shoulder block by Storm now, misdirection, and a low dropkick. Backbreaker by Storm gets two. Windsor back in, but one comes in and blocks a double suplex. Double clothesline and double headbutts by WindStorm (I made that up just now fyi). Storm misses a hip attack and Windsor gets dumped to the outside. Athena holds the bottom rope up for Athena, who flies LIKE A MISSLE INTO WINDSOR AND THE ANNOUNCE DESK. Hip attack by Storm sends Athena to the floor. Athena powerbombs Storm on the floor! Windsor comes off the apron with a double cannonball. Commercial time. Back with Athena attempting an elbow but Windsor ducks and Mone gets drilled. Windsor tags Storm and Athena has nobody to tag in her own corner. Dropkick by Storm and some Mongolian chops! Thesz Press to Athena and some ground and pound. Fisherman’s suplex by Storm gets two. Pepsi Twist by Windsor gets two on Athena. Windsor clubs Athena to the ground and tags Storm. Athena blocks a piledriver and Mone throws Windsor off the top to the floor. More Mongolian chops by Storm but Athena comes off the middle rope with a diving Code Breaker, right into a backstabber by Mone who tagged herself in. Crossface locked in now but Windsor makes the save. Athena dragged Storm to the corner and both women tag turns putting the boots to Storm. Running double knees by Mone. Running elbow by Athena. Mone misses a Meteora and Windsor gets the tag after a tornado DDT to Athena. Mone is in too and Windsor lays in some strikes and some clotheslines. Misdirection by Windsor and a diving lariat. Kip up! Russian leg sweep and a basement lariat. Two count. Mone boots out of a Sharpshooter attempt, but gets Blue Thunder Bombed instead. Athena breaks up the pin and tosses Toni Storm to the outside. Both women are on the steel steps… Athena piledrives Storm on the steps! Back in the ring, Windsor escapes a pin attempt by Mone. Tag to Athena. Running elbow by Windsor to Athena and a Samoan drop to Athena. Windsor looks for the Sharpshooter but Athena had made the tag, even though Mone is tapping. Athena flies in with the O Face over the top of Windsor! One, two, three.
Winners: Mercedes Mone & Athena
Rating: ***3/4. Excellent main event here. The crowd quieted a bit down the stretch, but the action held up. A lot of storyline coming out of this match, but the chemistry all four women have is excellent. Windsor has been such a breath of fresh air to an already stacked division.
Final Thoughts: Story-heavy episode tonight, which is the right move going into Forbidden Door. Also, you had an outstanding crowd tonight that ate everything up, which made everything feel important, special. The tag team tournament final was outstanding, the opening angle was hot, and everyone loved the main event. Can’t ask for much more heading into a PPV this weekend. 8.75/10.
