AJ Styles isn’t ruling out wrestling again after retirement, but it would take the right circumstances to bring him back.
Speaking on The AJ Styles Show (see video below), the WWE Hall of Famer discussed the possibility of eventually sharing the ring with his sons. Styles made it clear that simply working an independent show, even alongside his boys, wouldn’t necessarily be enough to convince him to lace up the boots again.
“But how long is it going to take my son or sons to get in the position where I’m able to do this show with them that matters?” Styles said. “If it doesn’t matter, I’ll be honest with you, I’m probably not going to come back for an indie show. I mean, even if it’s to wrestle with my boys. I probably do not want to do that.”
Styles noted that he would be open to making non-wrestling appearances in the meantime, including serving as a special guest referee or manager. However, if he were to wrestle again, Styles said he would want it to happen on a significant stage.
“I don’t mind being a special guest and a manager kind of thing, but if I do come back, hopefully I’m not 60 and it’s on a big show,” he said.
Styles ultimately admitted that the opportunity to team with his sons would be difficult to pass up, although much would depend on how quickly they progress in their own careers.
“I would definitely let, who wouldn’t, what father wouldn’t want to come back and tag with his sons?” Styles continued. “So I don’t know if that opportunity will come because it depends how long it’s going to take him.”
Also during the show, AJ Styles explained the role he had in Lola Vice’s recent NXT farewell.
