-------------------- Good to see that WWE.com reports actual news every once and a while... WWE.com Reports WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann has confirmed that Alberto Del Rio suffered a groin tear during the tag team main event of the Dec. 19 edition of Raw SuperShow. "We were able to look at an MRI, and it appears as though he has a groin injury that’s severe enough to require surgery," Dr. Amann told WWE.com. "Fortunately for Alberto, the surgery is minimally invasive and the recovery time is usually four to six weeks." OUCH. I can remember the Undertaker trying to actually work through a torn groin in late 1999 and it wasn't happening. Albert Del Rio, fortunately, wrestles a style where his mobility is necessary and getting the injury taken care of before Wrestlemania 28 is very wise. WWE might attempt to do an injury angle, but just to put over the 6 man match from last week's RAW. I don't want to root on an injury, as I overall like Alberto Del Rio... But I'm sorry, the WWE has shoved him down our throats since the 2011 Draft. He is absolutely loved by Vince McMahon and Vince was DEAD SET on making Del Rio as WWE Champion at SummerSlam 2011. That, and he thought too much of the Mexican trip in mid-October. Thus, we had multiple Del Rio title reigns shoved down our throats DESPITE CM Punk naturally getting over insomuch that it should have derailed plans for Del Rio. But it didn't... And the buyrates for Del Rio's headlined shows are embarrassing. I've always thought that Del Rio was poorly used on the RAW roster after the 2011 Draft. He was doing just fine on the Smackdown roster in his "chase" for the World Title. After all, he won the 2011 Royal Rumble match and LOST that title shot at Wrestlemania 27. Considering Edge was about to retire, that blows my mind that Del Rio lost at WM 27 and the WWE wouldn't event let Del Rio win the Smackdown title tournament soon thereafter. But he was CHASING that title and building himself up to be champion. When he went to RAW, he started out with a feud with the Big Show and then just sort of hovered until Money in the Bank PPV rolled around. There, he won the briefcase and later cashed it in after Kevin Nash laid out CM Punk at SummerSlam 2011. WWE Creative Team is a fault here and they've hurt Del Rio's chances of actually becoming a legitimate draw with poor booking. Fact is that CM Punk's momentum from Money in the Bank was stalled because of the McMahon love for Del Rio (along with wanting to push the Chief Operating Officer angle with Triple H). WWE has reportedly been baffled by how Del Rio isn't succeeding as champion, yet they attempt to find every excuse in the world to discount CM Punk's title reigns. I hope Del Rio heals up, but I also hope he returns to be booked much better than he was since the 2011 Draft on the RAW roster. However, I will admit that it will be nice not having him shoved down my throat for a change... CONTACT MR.
