Grrrr, I'm Mr. Muscle & Fitness, Grrrrrr!!!! was an incredible promo by Rob Van Dam against Triple H in 2002. Grrrrrrrr!

A magazine and several internet publications are insisting that there's a good possibility that Rob Van Dam may return to the WWE once his TNA contract reportedly expires in March. And of course, there is speculation that RVD would rejoin the WWE, a place he hasn't been since 2007. I predict, however, that TNA Wrestling will re-up him because due to TNA's inability to develop their own stars, they are desperate to retain old names/faces from WCW/ECW/WWE's past.

That, and RVD is 41 years old now with a ton of tread worn on those tires from years upon years of high risk maneuvers. Additionally, with the WWE being a corporation, they have to be leary of a public image hit for rehiring someone they took a PR hit for in July 2006 when RVD and Sabu were pulled over and were found to be possessing drugs. With the WWE Wellness Policy having its success policing wrestlers, RVD might not be deemed worthy of the trouble (unfortunately).

BUT - Let's take the speculation bait... Let's assume that the news report about his expiring contract does occur in March and he rejoins the WWE. What then?

I've said this before... ROB VAN DAM NEEDS AN IMAGE CHANGE. Sorry, but the airbrushed tights and the shaved sides with the pony tail HAVE to go. He's had the same look since the late 1990's and times have changed. In fact, I believe his personal stereotypes are often compared to reality because he actually refuses to change his wrestling style and look.

It's time to modernize RVD for 2012. At the age of 41, he can't keep doing the same high risk spots. What baffles me in this day and age of several wrestlers using kicking strikes as regular moves (Daniel Bryan, CM Punk), why someone who gives the appearance of knowing martial arts doesn't attempt to master the kicking strikes himself. Instead of some form of flying spinning kick, he could punish opponents with kicking strikes.

Flipping moves look tacky... I LOVE me some Rolling Thunder, but it seems so repetitive when is appears required to be in every RVD match. Froggie Splash remains a great finisher, but as someone, again, who pushes his martial arts background, developing a submission hold wouldn't hurt.

But the tights and the haircut would need changed ASAP. The airbrushed tights just make him look so immature while the haircut was barely fashionable during the 1990's, let alone now. In fact, the WWE could perform a heel turn by simply giving him a professional looking haircut and telling the fans how wrong they were for cheering him.

I just feel with Rob Van Dam, especially with his refusal to evolve his wrestling style and image, is just a relic of the 1990's and is a reminder that the late 1990's "Golden Era" of pro wrestling is disappearing fast. RVD continuing the same look and keeping the same exact moveset makes him look out of place in today's wrestling world.

It's all about image and evolving with the times...

So just chill... Till the next episode!
