May 17th, 2017 On commentary tonight, at Full Sail University, are Tom Phillips, “Showtime” Percy Watson, and Nigel McGuinness Opening Segment Singles Match: Drew McIntyre vs. Sean Maluta Drew takes a knee in his corner, staring down his competition. He and Maluta grapple until the referee breaks them up and Drew gestures towards the centre of the ring. Maluta slowly walks there and they continue grappling into the opposite corner where the ref breaks it up again. Crosschops by McIntyre. Maluta hits back but McIntyre hits harder, knocking Maluta to the ground twice. He’s man-handling this guy. McIntyre with a suplex slam showing off incredible strength. Irish whip to the corner. Gets a boot to the face. Maluta leaps to the top rope, launches himself and hits a Codebreaker of sorts on McIntyre for a 1 count. Right hands by Maluta, followed by a flying forearm in the corner. McIntyre reverses the whip and kicks Maluta as he springs up, right in the chin. Ouch. McIntyre’s breathing deeply and he unloads right hands on Maluta. Up to the top rope, elbow to the head of Maluta, dropping him to the mat. Maluta’s got some fight left in him but McIntyre headbutts him in the face…and he’s bleeding from underneath the right eye. He charges up and nails Maluta with his running front kick (Claymore) to the face. Pinfall is successful. Winner: Drew McIntyre via pinfall in 5 minutes Post-match, McIntyre’s interviewed on the ramp. He’s not concerned with Wesley Blake, but if Blake wants a little attention, he can get in the ring next week. Sounds like a challenge to me. One cool point for McIntyre’s aggression. He worked hard against Maluta and it showed with that bloody eye. That’s the kind of victory that gets notice. Recap: We see the finish of the #1 Contender’s Match, last week, between Hideo Itami and Roderick Strong. After the show went off the air, SAnitY attacked Strong, with Dain and Young hitting him with their finishers. nXt General Manager William Regal checks on Strong as he walks backstage. Strong says he wants SAnitY. Promo: Young and his crew are in a parking lot, at night. He says they don’t normally take requests but if Strong wants a fight, they’ll see him at Takeover: Chicago. Cross chuckles as the whole group stares into the camera. Coming Up: Sonya Deville vs. Lacey Evans, and Kassius Ohno vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas Second Segment Promo: We see a highlight package for Hideo Itami, looking at September 2014 when GM Regal introduced him to FSU for the first time. Recap: Highlights from the inaugural WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament are shown, focusing on Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne who face off this Saturday at Takeover: Chicago. These are followed by an interview and highlight package on UK Champion Bate and #1 Contender Dunne. Up Next: An exclusive interview with nXt Women’s Champion, Asuka Third Segment Promo: A new wrestler will be debuting soon in nXt: Velveteen Dream. Promo: Highlights are shown from the nXt show in San Jose, March 2015, when Hideo Itami defeated Tyler Breeze with the GTS. Guess who finally made the Takeover theme song LIST? “Judas” by Fozzy will be one of the theme songs for Takeover: Chicago. Earlier today, Asuka is asked about the Triple Threat match at Takeover. She’s in the back seat of a moving vehicle and refuses to answer any questions from the interviewer. She rolls up to FSU and the fans cheer her on. She takes her phone out and takes a selfie with them very cheerfully. Singles Match: Lacey Evans vs. Sonya Deville The two ladies lock up. Deville attacks with kicks, getting a quick pinfall attempt. Evans’s up quickly, catches Deville’s leg and knocks her down for a pinfall attempt of her own. Another quick cover from Deville and she wraps up Evans in a body scissors. Evans is rolled over for a pinfall attempt. 1-2- kickout. Deville keeps Evans at bay with kicks and now she’s taking her padded gloves off. She lays into Evans in the corner. Deville motions for Evans to hit her. She strikes, misses and Evans replies with a right hand to the chin! Deville’s down. Two knockdowns later and handstand knees to the mid-section. Evans is on a roll. She connects with a neckbreaker and goes for the pinfall for a 2 count. She’s too slow to seize the moment and Deville runs at her with a knee to the head. She drags Evans away from the ropes for the cover and the win. Winner: Sonya Deville via pinfall in 3 minutes No cool points awarded. Evans showed some flexibility and Deville showed off her striking prowess, but it just didn’t connect with me. The finish seemed weak with Evans basically waiting for Deville to strike. Why wouldn’t she move? She wasn’t really stunned beforehand. That’s a poor way for a fight to end. Up Next: Kassius Ohno vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas Fourth Segment Recap: We see highlights from Itami’s return to nXt last month, interrupting nXt Champion Bobby Roode and beating him up with the GTS. There’s a new theme song for Takeover: Chicago and it’s called “Over-Throne” by Hacktivist. Singles Match: Kassius Ohno vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas Ohno’s wearing a retro Orlando Magic road jersey this match, with the word “Kassius” instead of Magic. Almas is up to his usual start of match bravado, showing off his agility and his resting in the ropes tricks. Ohno catches Almas with a kick and sends him retreating out of the ring. Ohno runs the ropes and does a handstand over the top rope to the ring apron and below, missing Almas who ran off. Almas tries to catch Ohno off guard on the ramp but receives a hard knee to the face for his efforts. Chops to the chest by Ohno on Almas. Ohno gets thrown into the ropes and he flips violently over them, landing feet first on the apron. Almas kicks him to the outside as… We go to commercial break. On the return, Almas is stomping and slapping Ohno in the corner. The pace of the match has slowed as Almas continues bringing kicks and knees to Ohno. He stomps on a seated Ohno in the corner. Keeping him off of his feet is smart, given the height and reach advantage that Ohno has. Almas does his signature run, stop, yell and slap to the face. This seems to wake Ohno up. They trade punches until Almas wraps up Ohno in the ropes with a tarantula-like submission that receives the 4-count from the referee. Almas worked over the elbow on that one. Top rope dropkick takes Ohno down for a 2 count. Almas attacks the left elbow of Ohno again, hyperextending it. He tries his yell and slap move again but Ohno is ready for it, kicking him away. Ohno has the advantage now, building up to a front flip neckbreaker on Almas. He sends Almas into the corner, slams him there, and then hits a spinning roundhouse kick for a 2 count of his own. Powerslam on Almas. Ohno ascends to the top rope, facing away from Almas…Moonsault…does not connect. Almas does connect with an elbow slam to the chest. 1-2- kickout by Ohno. Almas positions Ohno for a suplex but Ohno won’t let him. Instead, Ohno lifts Almas on to the top turnbuckle . The two battle on the second ropes. Almas clubs Ohno repeatedly to send him to the mat. He leaps off the top rope right into a soccer kick to the face by Ohno. Cartwheel back handspring flip by Almas and his legs come crashing down on Ohno’s neck. Almas is getting hyped up now! Double knees into a seated Ohno in the corner. What force! He went for the hammerlock DDT but Ohno pushed him to the opposite corner. Almas jumps up to the top rope, grabs Ohno’s neck and spins him back for a tornado DDT! 1- kickout by Ohno. Wow. Nothing seems to be hurting these guys right now. They stare each other down. Almas dishes right punches and forearms. Ohno runs the ropes and kicks Almas hard in the face with a big boot. Almas yells at him. Spinning right hand by Ohno and a massive discus elbow smash cleans Almas’ clock. 1-2-3. Winner: Kassius Ohno via pinfall in 9 minutes One cool point for the force with which Ohno travels inside the ring. He’s such a tall guy that he can get from one side of the ring to the other in nearly a single stride. He moves with such speed and force that Almas hardly had time to react to any of those running kicks or punches he landed. Quite impressive. This match made me think how neat it would be to see him wrestle Drew McIntyre. The two would be well-paired for battle. One cool point for Almas for working so hard. He really had no time to be arrogant save for the opening moments of the match. The tornado DDT was impressive, too. At present, he is the workhorse of the division and can be called upon to wrestle anyone and elevate their game. Next Week: Drew McIntyre vs. Wesley Blake and Aleister Black will be in action Final Segment Recap: We see highlights from Itami’s victory over Roderick Strong to become the #1 contender to Roode’s nXt Championship. The announcers discuss the nXt Championship match for Takeover: Chicago when, suddenly, Bobby Roode’s glorious entrance music hits the speakers. Here comes the champion, suited up and stylish. He wipes his shoes off on the apron and enters the ring, belt hanging over his shoulder proudly. Roode says wherever he goes, everyone’s talking about Itami and GTS. Sure, he’s knocked a couple people out but come on…Roode says he got knocked out by the GTS even. He can admit it. But he was minding his own business. Roode says that will never ever happen again. At Takeover: Chicago, he’ll do what he does every single night- beat his opponent. There’s no comparing the two track records of Roode and Itami. Roode’s done so much to improve nXt. Itami simply has not. He’ll have to fly home to tell his kids, “Daddy failed again”. Hideo Itami has heard enough. He begins to walk down the ramp but GM Regal and nXt security staff get in his way. Roode takes off his suit jacket and rolls up his sleeves, preparing for a brawl. Itami sneaks through security and tackles Roode to the mat. He beats up on the security staff, even hitting a GTS on one of them! And a second! What did they do to deserve that?? Roode watches on in shock as Itami threatens to hit the third guy. Roode clotheslines him from behind to prevent him but, shortly thereafter, receives another GTS for his efforts. That’s a wrap. Who’s the bad guy here?
