WWE nXt Results
May 4th, 2016

On commentary tonight, back at Full Sail University, are Tom Phillips and Corey Graves.

Opening Segment

The first man to stroll down to the squared circle tonight is the new nXt champion, Samoa Joe. He tells the crowd he’s a man who keeps his word and his victory over Finn Balor was inevitable. The world is on notice: it’s a new era and he runs things. If anyone has a problem, he’ll beat them down and choke them out.

A new theme song hits and it’s Eric Young, the newest recruit from the TNA Impact roster! The crowd goes nuts and chants, “E-Y!” Young says he knows Joe and talks him up a little bit. The only thing in life that’s guaranteed is change and he collects championships. Things changed for Joe and now they’re gonna change for him.
Joe stares him down and leaves the ring, saying EY doesn’t even belong in the same ring as him.

Singles Match: Nia Jax vs. Tessa Blanchard

Jax lifts Blanchard off of her feet and throws her into the corner. She misses the running knee and Blanchard unloads with punches, even a crossbody attempt, but Jax blocks it. She delivers successive elbow drops and then connects with the running splash. Out of the corner, she delivers a Samoan drop, bounces off the ropes and lands the leg drop. 1-2-3.

Winner: Nia Jax via pinfall in 2 minutes

One cool point for Nia Jax who is the equivalent of Awesome Kong to the TNA Impact Women’s Division. There is no one in her weight class and no one in the division who can brawl like she can. She’s a unique force and it won’t be long before we see her challenging Asuka for the championship.

Promo: No Way Jose makes his Full Sail debut tonight!

Second Segment

Singles Match: “The Perfect 10” Tye Dillinger vs. Austin Aries

The crowd chants “10” as this match begins. Dillinger and Aries lock up. As they bounce off the ropes together, it’s Dillinger who snapmares Aries for a short pinfall attempt. Aries responds with a few single arm takedowns and keeps Dillinger on the mat with a brief armlock. The two move into the corner where Aries battles his way out, whips Dillinger into the corner but it’s reversed. Aries answers with a boot to the face and charges Dillinger who responds with a backbreaker and a 2 count pin attempt. Knees to the back and a stomp to the head by Dillinger. Whipped into the corner, Aries is dragged out for another 2 count by Dillinger.

In the centre of the ring, it’s Dillinger with a loud cross chop on Aries. Aries responds with one of his own and continues to strike his opponent’s chest. Clothesline. Aries rushes Dillinger who flips him over the top rope but he lands on the apron. Clap of the ears sends Dillinger to the mat and Aries leaps over for a senton bomb.Dillinger escapes to the outside where Aries does a spinning splash over the top rope! Upon entry into the ring, Aries delivers a neckbreaker on to the second rope to Dillinger. Dillinger retreats to the opposite corner. Aries is opposite him and he charges, but gets caught with a knee to the face. Dillinger picks up Aries, sideways on his shoulders, and executes a nasty neckbreaker. Almost gets the 3 count.

Dillinger drops his kneepad but Aries hits him with the discus forearm. Then a running dropkick. Dillinger is down on the mat as Aries climbs the turnbuckle. 450 Splash! Aries gets the win.

Winner: Austin Aries via pinfall in 6 minutes

One cool point for both men who put on an enjoyable match, making the most of their minutes. I think the nXt crowd appreciates Aries’ moveset, which is very familiar to anyone who watched him in TNA. Dillinger held his own and that neckbreaker of his is vicious. That one turns heads…literally.

Recap: Last week, The Revival attacked the Hype Bros, sending a message to the nXt Tag Team Champions, American Alpha.

Up Next: The Revival vs. Hype Bros.

Third Segment

Tag Team Match: The Revival vs. The Hype Bros.

Dawson is wearing a great new shirt that says: No flips, just fists. That certainly represents their team well.

It’s Ryder and Wilder trading punches to start this one off. Ryder’s up on the second rope and gets thrown off by Wilder. Tag is made and Dawson lays into Ryder with a striking combination. Ryder tries to get back to his corner but Dawson shuts that down with punches and clotheslines. Tags in Wilder and throws Ryder’s head into his knee. Wilder with the European uppercut. Another tag. Thrown off the ropes…drop toehold on Ryder and Dawson quickly follows it with a leg drop. Chokehold applied and Ryder is struggling. Dawson has it cinched in pretty well until Dawson tags in Wilder when he sees the hold is struggling.

Wilder continues to lay the boots to Ryder. They’ve cut the ring in half, keeping the action to their corner until now…Ryder defends the running bulldog, shoving Wilder into the turnbuckle and leaps to tag in Mojo Rawley. Mojo with shoulderblocks off the ropes. A knee to Dawson’s head on the outside. Mojo employs his football tackles but on one of the throws, Wilder is tagged by Dawson who sets him up for the Shatter Machine, finished by Wilder. Wilder goes to pin Mojo but Dawson is the legal man and he throws his partner off to make the pin.

Winners: The Revival via pinfall in 6 minutes

One cool point for The Revival who obliterated the Hype Bros. There is a clear divide between these two teams. The Hype Bros aren’t quite up to par yet and they’ll need some more seasoning before they challenge the former tag champs again. Dash & Dawson’s tag strategy was employed near perfectly. Can’t wait to see them face American Alpha again.

Backstage, it’s a new nxt host, Andrea D’Marco, with Alex Riley. He has a match next week against Shinsuke Nakamura. Riley doesn’t know what strong style is supposed to be. He says Nakamura may have been handing out beatings around the world for years, but, next week, Riley’s going to give him one. It’s time to rage.

Fourth Segment

Singles Match: No Way Jose vs. Noah Kekoa

No Way Jose enters the ring and has not stopped dancing as the crowd chants “Jose” to the tune of “Ole”. The referee asks him to start fighting and Kekoa charges. Jose quickly applies a wristlock, twisting the left arm. Armlock on the mat lasts for a few moments until Kekoa gets back to his feet and lands a right hand. Jose is pissed! He retorts with punches of his own and two big chops to the chest. Bulldog out of the corner. Jose stands in the “batter’s box” and delivers another big swinging right hand to Kekoa who is in la la land after that one. Full nelson slam finishes him off. Jose dances in victory…naturally.

Winner: No Way Jose via pinfall in 3 minutes

One cool point for the nXt audience who started a chant in Spanish. No Way Jose gets win #2 and briefly shows that he has a mean streak and does not like being punched in the face. He will get more time to shine.

Backstage, Cathy Kelley asks Austin Aries about his time in nXt so far, especially his win over Dillinger. Aries says Dillinger’s an A level talent, but Aries is double A. He says the audience doesn’t know how to take him. He seems to be flying under the radar and it may take a little extra initiative to get to the top. Then, he needs to replenish his potassium levels with a banana.

Up Next: Samoa Joe vs. Eric Young in a non-title match

Final Segment

Next Week: “The Demon” Finn Balor returns.

Non-Title Singles Match: Samoa Joe (c) vs. Eric Young

This is Eric Young’s debut match in nXt and who better to face than someone he knows very well in Samoa Joe. Interestingly, he’s wearing the same army jacket, with patches, that he did on Impact Wrestling.

Both wrestlers target each other’s arm to begin this match. Young has enough and delivers a right hand. This caps off a bit of a brawl as both men trade punches. Out of the corner, Joe reverses the whip and Young leaps up and over the charging Samoa Joe to deliver a dropkick. Kick to the knee and a spinning neckbreaker. It only gets a 1 count.
Young bashes Joe’s head into the top turnbuckle. He does it again and delivers a stomp and a chop to Joe in the corner. Out from the corner, Joe flips Young over the ropes and on to the floor below. Joe proceeds to dive through the ropes and clothesline Young as…

we go to commercial.

We’re back and it’s all Samoa Joe, dishing out cross chops to Young all over the ring. Young battles back with right hands. He goes off the ropes but is stopped cold by Joe’s elbow. 2 count and Young kicks out. Headbutt by Joe x2. Young keeps fighting back though. Tries to whip Joe into the corner but it’s reversed into a tackle and an enziguri in the corner. Joe gets another 2 count. Bear claw on Young’s right shoulder, digging into the trapezius muscle, Graves says. Young gets back to his feet to deliver right punches. Off the ropes, it’s an atomic drop from Joe. He follows it with the big boot and a big fat senton. Wow. Still only a 2 count though.

Joe with jabs on Young’s face but Young retorts with jabs of his own. He winds up for the haymaker and clobbers Joe on the head. Joe reverses another Irish whip attempt from Young and as the new man on campus exits the corner, Joe lifts him up and over his head. In the corner, Joe chokes Young for a 4 count and then delivers some more jabs. Young continues to fight back with an uppercut and a right hand. Off the ropes, Young receives Joe’s elbow to the head. Another 2 count pinfall attempt.

Joe mouths off to Young in the corner and it awakens Young who finally is successful in knocking Joe off of his feet after running the ropes. He follows it up with a big vertical suplex. Young climbs the turnbuckle and delivers a high flying elbow drop. 2.5 count!

Young almost got the upset victory!

Young drags Joe up to his feet and Joe throws him off the ropes, bends down, and Young prepares to piledrive him. Joe counters and chops him. He misses the charge in the corner. Young leaps at him and gets spiked to the mat by Joe. Slaps to the face. Joe lifts Young to the turnbuckle, picks him up and delivers the muscle buster! He applies the Coquina Clutch immediately and Young taps out. Joe’s music hits and he does not release the hold. He doesn’t let go until Young passes out.

Winner: Samoa Joe via submission in 12 minutes

One cool point for Eric Young’s nXt debut. Very cool seeing him in a new setting and while he got pretty beat up, he was able to show off his ability to take punishment…as well as how sweet of an elbow drop he has. One cool point for the new champ, Samoa Joe. He looked very strong in his first match as champion. He seems to be getting by on primarily a striking offense but that seems to make his Coquina Clutch more effective. By the time he slaps it on his opponent, they’re so worn down from all the chops, punches and kicks, they’ve got nothing left in the tank to fight back.

What do you think? Where does Young fit in on the roster? How long will it take for Aries to get a major feud? Looking forward to your thoughts and cool point suggestions on tonight’s episode.

Peace!
