WWE nXt Results
September 14th, 2016

On commentary tonight, at Full Sail University, are Tom Phillips and Corey Graves.

Opening Segment

We’re not starting with a match tonight, folks. Instead, Samoa Joe is sauntering down to the ring and he’s got something to say.

He says he’s a man who understands when he’s gone a bit too far, when he’s made mistakes. He says the entire time he held the nXt championship, he was a disgrace. He wanted to be the champion of the hottest brand in pro wrestling…the standard by which nXt was known by and he wants to tell Nakamura something to his face.

A little waiting occurs before the lights go down and Nakamura’s music hits.
Joe lambasts people who hide behind social media platforms to say things…Joe says things directly to a person, face to face. He restates how big of a deal Takeover: Brooklyn II was. He told Nakamura he was undeserving before the show…but now he admits he was wrong. Nakamura is a champion.

Joe wants his rematch as soon as he’s medically cleared. Nakamura says, “rematch?” and pauses, biting his fingers. He’s thinking about it. The crowd shouts “ohhhhhhhh” a few times until Nakamura agrees. Joe offers his hand to Nakamura. Nakamura hesitates, then shakes it. Joe says thank you.

Nakamura hangs out in the ring, posing for a bit and walks back to the ramp. As he’s about to bow one last time, Samoa Joe returns with a blindside attack! Joe slams Nakamura into the steel steps and then spikes him on top of them, leaving a pile of Nakamura on the floor. The referees try to send Joe away as he yells, “I did this to you!” at the champion. Guess he’s not trying to be respectful about this after all.

The medical team put a neck brace on the champion and strap him to the orange board, denoting the potential severity of the attack. nXt GM William Regal even walks down to have a closer look at Nakamura. Commentator Corey Graves joins him. No further information is given.

Second Segment

Returning from commercial, Phillips and Graves comment on what they just saw and how shocking it was to see Nakamura get injured.
Regal runs outside of FSU, trying to chase down Joe who drives away just as Regal approached.

Singles Match: Liv Morgan vs. Rachel Fazio

The opening tie-up ends in a nifty body scissors and leg scissors tumbling hold by Morgan on Fazio…leading to a 2 count pinfall attempt. Morgan applies a side headlock. Fazio pushes her off the ropes but Morgan evades the clothesline and brushes the dirt off of her shoulder so to speak. She evades a second attempt Matrix-style, bending backward. Fazio doesn’t miss the kidney shot or spearing Morgan into the corner. She lands a few shoulder thrusts. Morgan ducks a punch and snapmares her to the mat. Running dropkick. She runs at Fazio and punches her. Fazio picks her up on to her shoulders. Morgan kicks out. She jumps on to Fazio and brings her down into what appeared to be a DDT, but held on and made a chokehold…Fazio taps out quickly.

Winner: Liv Morgan via pinfall in 3 minutes

Post-match, Liv gets a little mic time! She says no offense to Rachel but you just tapped the hell out. Word on the street is that there’s no one else left to fight for the nXt Women’s Championship. Morgan is standing right here, right now and she wants to fight! The world might think she has a deathwish to challenge Asuka, but she doesn’t care. She wants a title match. The crowd responds with an “Asuka’s gonna kill you” chant to which Morgan says just try it!

One cool point for Corey Graves who says that wearing a striped shirt doesn’t make you a tiger. Morgan may talk a big game but she’s not ready for Asuka…unless being ready means ready to tap the hell out! It was an awkward match to watch, although I’ll give half a cool point to Morgan for all the offense she showcased. Maybe Asuka fights her just to get a little exercise until someone else comes along. I’d be fine with that.

Coming Up: No Way Jose vs. Bobby Roode

There’ve been these promos the last few weeks that conclude with the word, “Sanity”. Not sure if it’s a team or a wrestler. Hopefully, we’ll find out soon.

Third Segment

An update on Nakamura’s condition: he has feeling in all of his extremities.

Singles Match: Drew Gulak vs. Hideo Itami

Gulak was featured in the Cruiserweight Classic Tournament.

Gulak and Itami begin with a quick pace. Their first tieup brings them to the ropes. Gulak slaps Itami hard in the face. Itami returns the favour. They run the ropes. Big knee to the mid-section of Gulak from Itami. Off the ropes again and Itami catches him again. Itami winds up with a soccer kick to the chest. He takes the kneepad off, jumps over Gulak and slaps him in the face with the bottom of his foot. Snarky.

In the corner, Itami attacks once and sends Gulak to the opposite corner. He charges again but Gulak’s ready with a kick to the face. Dropkick from Gulak knocks Itami off of his feet. He picks him up and throws him down into the bottom ropes. 2 count cover.
Now it’s Gulak with stomps to the head of Itami. He applies pressure to Itami’s left ankle, pushing it against his knee. Itami refuses to give up. Gulak breaks the hold and applies a backwards arm stretch, working the previously injured shoulder of Itami. Belly to back suplex…and the pinfall…1-2- kickout!

Itami is raging against Gulak’s slaps. He charges with a clothesline. High kicks to the chest of Gulak. A flurry of chops ending with a roundhouse back kick. Dropkick into the corner and Gulak is eating the mat. The crowd chants for the “GTS”. And that’s exactly what they get. Go To Sleep! 1-2-3!

Winner: Hideo Itami via pinfall in 5 minutes

One cool point for Itami’s kicks. They are hard-hitting, accurate and he can use them in many ways. Like the attitude he showed in this one, too. He’s slowly working his way up the ladder again. These kinds of matches should garner more support from the fans and, with any luck, he’ll have a high profile match at the next Takeover. He’ll have easily earned it by November.

Up Next: The Authors of Pain are in action.

Fourth Segment

Tag Team Match: Authors of Pain w. Paul Ellering vs. Doug Sessa and Chris Payne

I guess I missed it, but the Authors of Pain now have names… they are Rezer and Akam.
Rezer and Sessa start it off. Sessa’s on the mat pretty quickly. Rezer tags in Akam and they hang Sessa up on the ropes, clobbering him in their corner. The referee calls on Akam to stop. Sessa responds with big rights to each Author of Pain which do no damage whatsoever. Soon enough, Sessa’s back on the mat. Akam drags in his partner, Chris Payne, and he gets clobbered to the mat, landing on his neck. Rezer, with a little help from Akam, powerbombs Payne into the centre of the ring. Rezer yells at him as he rolls out.

Back to Sessa…Akam tags in, holds Sessa and waits for Rezer to run the ropes and clothesline Sessa to the mat. This match is over.

Winners: Authors of Pain via pinfall in 2 minutes

One cool point for the Authors of Pain who have consistently destroyed just about everyone who’s been in the ring with them thus far. Is there a team out there willing to challenge them? I think the slow build continues for these guys and that they’ll be due a Takeover match, if not in November, then soon after.

Backstage, “The Perfect 10” Tye Dillinger is asked about the rollercoaster of a summer he had. Dillinger says sometimes you have to take one step back to go two steps forward. He’s been successful as of late though. He has been and will always be a perfect 10.

Up Next: No Way Jose vs. Bobby Roode

WWE has launched a new promotional campaign for Connor’s Cure, an organization they started to raise money for pediatric cancer. It’s in honour of the famous Connor who touched the hearts of many fans during Daniel Bryan’s run to Wrestlemania XXX. To support them, go to www.ConnorTheCrusher.org. Get the gear, give the gear!

Final Segment

Singles Match: No Way Jose vs. Bobby Roode

Roode with the snapmare on Jose to cap off the match. He yells out “Glorious!” afterwards and Jose stares him down. Side headlock applied by Roode. Jose pushes him off the ropes but Roode resists and re-applies the headlock. Jose breaks free and this time Roode bounces off the ropes and knocks Jose down. Both guys defend the arm drag until Jose is successful, dropping Roode to the mat, and following it up with a powerslam. Roode retreats to the corner. Jose approaches and gets kicked in the mid-section. That turns into a battle of slaps. Jose slams Roode to the mat and then he clotheslines Roode to the outside. Off of the apron, Jose jumps and lands a double axe handle on Roode as the fans chant his name…

Commercial Break.

We return and Jose just finished stomping down Roode in the corner. He leaves him too long though and Roode counters the Irish Whip, sending Jose into the ropes. Jose bounces off and kicks Roode in the jaw. He charges again and Roode catches him with a spinebuster, knocking the wind out of him. Roode urgently lands kicks to Jose’s head. He picks him up and continues to punch him along the ropes. Chops in the corner. He stands on Jose as he chokes him using the second rope. The referee breaks it with a 4 count but the damage is done.

Roode with a vertical suplex, holding Jose for several moments. Quite glorious indeed.
Jose’s not backing down though. Off the ropes, crossbody! 1-2- kickout from Roode. Back suplex by Roode and now he covers Jose for a 2 count. Roode slows it down with a side headlock. Jose’s getting a little bit of applause from the fans to fight back. Roode stuns him with a punch to the head. He goes for the suplex. Jose lands on his feet and brings the jabs and a strong right hand to him. Two-handed chops! Airplane spin chinbreaker, like a TKO…is it over? 1-2- Roode kicks out!

Roode fights off Jose. Jose delivers a back elbow to Roode. He winds up for the pitch and misses! Neckbreaker from Roode…beautiful. He has Jose in his sights. He yells out “Glorious!” Jumping DDT. 1-2-3.

Winner: Bobby Roode via pinfall in 8 minutes

One cool point for Jose showing a more serious attitude in this match. That’s something he’ll need more of when he faces opponents like Roode. Keep the dancing to a minimum and focus on winning the match.

One cool point for Bobby Roode who gets his first win at FSU. Man oh man, there’s a lot of pageantry and spotlight being given this guy. The show ends with him in the spotlight and his glorious theme music playing. He deserves it though. He’s a big deal and it won’t be long before he’s main eventing more than just an episode of nXt. Nice to see some variety in suplexes and slams too. There are a lot of guys who strike nowadays and it can feel like more traditional wrestling moves are forgotten at times. Not for Roode. He’s got options.

Anyone worried about Nakamura or does this just ensure he and Joe are on more even footing once they fight in November?

Looking forward to your own cool point suggestions and comments on tonight’s episode.

Peace!
