WWE nXt Results
September 23rd, 2015

On commentary tonight, at Full Sail University, are Rich Brennan, Byron Saxton, and Corey Graves.

Opening Segment

The commentators take a moment to look back at the controversy created by Eva Marie’s last match where she maybe kinda didn’t raise her shoulders in time, but the referee maybe kinda helped her out. We get an old school promo clip where Eva Marie thanks the referee for not giving into the bias opinion of the crowd, for recognizing her shoulders were off the mat. Sassy.

Singles Match: Eva Marie vs. Carmella

Carmella, in white trunks, goes right after Eva Marie, who’s wearing all blue tonight. She throws Eva Marie to the outside and taunts her with a moonwalk. Upon Eva Marie’s return to the ring, she goes for a quick pin, receiving a 1 count. Eva knees Carmella hard and suplexes her for a 2 count. Eva drags Carmella by the hair to the corner and drives her head into the turnbuckle a few times. She elbows her and then delivers a big boot, knocking Carmella down for a 2 count. As she grabs Carmella’s hair again, she yells “How you doin?!” Another suplex and another 2 count. Eva Marie’s having her way with her opponent tonight, going so far as to choke Carmella in the ring ropes.

Eva Marie goes for another suplex, but Carmella stops it and rolls up for a 1 count. Eva slows things down with an arm stretch submission. The crowd is shouting for Carmella, and she manages to get to her feet and deliver a hurricanrana off the turnbuckle. Lou Thesz press...and another one. She’s coming back, folks! Staten Island shuffle, followed by a spear on Eva into the corner. Eva’s face meets Carmella’s boot on the top turnbuckle, and we have a... what should have been a 3 count but the referee refrains from calling the pinfall. He says Eva Marie had her foot on the rope. Carmella can’t believe it. She tries to grab Eva but Eva throws her to the ramp, and Carmella lands awkwardly. The referee begins to count and Carmella doesn’t get up before the 10 count.

Winner: Eva Marie via countout in 5 minutes and 10 seconds.

Post-Match: The replay shows that Eva Marie did have her foot on the ropes, so he did, in fact, make the right call. Clever spoof on an actual mess-up? Corey Graves says it’s not an upset, it’s just a way of life.

Two cool points for nXt making an angle out of the mess-up. Some will hate it. I didn’t. It gives Eva Marie more heat. Also, the countout victory is underrated these days.

Coming Up: The contract signing for Asuka, the nXt Tag Team Championship is on the line tonight, and up next, Bull Dempsey vs. Tyler Breeze.

Promo: We continue to wait for Nia Jax to come to nXt. Women’s division, beware!

Recap: A video package details Bayley’s Women’s Championship win over Sasha Banks and their upcoming rematch at Takeover in a first ever Ironwoman match. First female main event on nXt, too.

Second Segment
Yes! Brennan calls it a grudge match. The crowd is hot for Dempsey, shouting “Bull-Fit!” as he enters the ring.

Singles Match: Bull Dempsey vs. Tyler Breeze

The referee calls for the bell as Breeze lies on top of the ropes. He’s not even out of his jacket yet. Breeze stalls a little longer, making the referee back Dempsey up, by moving between the ropes. Finally, they lock up with Breeze hanging off Dempsey. Dempsey starts messing with Breeze’s hair, which infuriates Breeze. Inverted atomic drop by Dempsey, followed by a snapmare. Dempsey runs to the corner where Breeze ducks and tosses him over the ropes. Dempsey lands on his feet, grabs Breeze’s head and rams it into the top turnbuckle. Bull lands a few jabs but can’t land the roundhouse because Breeze pushes Dempsey. Dempsey’s right hand hits the ramp hard. The referee gets to a 9 count before Dempsey rolls in.

Breeze on the offensive now and we go to commercial.

Breeze has Dempsey in a side headlock, trying to wear down the fit man. Dempsey squirms a bunch and finally breaks free, but isn’t able to stand up. Breeze covers him for a 2 count and we’re back to the side headlock strategy. Dempsey works for the better part of a minute and he is able to throw Breeze over his head to break the hold, but he’s still worn down. Breeze begins punching Dempsey, but Dempsey begins bulling up and the punches don’t affect him! Here come the Bull jabs to the face, mid-section and then a headbutt to the chest, and a belly to the head. Breeze retreats to the corner and receives the full weight of Dempsey who is clobbering the man from Cairo. Dempsey ascends the turnbuckle and Breeze rolls under the ropes to avoid pain. Dempsey flips Breeze back into the ring and Dempsey’s heading up top again, but Breeze throws Dempsey off the top and pins him, using the ropes as leverage. A sneaky win for Tyler Breeze.

Winner: Tyler Breeze via pinfall in 6 minutes and 19 seconds

Post-Match: For those who are interested, Dempsey endured a cut to the arm during this match, when he fell on the entrance ramp.

One cool point for the sheer joy Bull Dempsey has in the ring. He’s fun to watch. One cool point for Tyler Breeze’s smarmy villain work in getting the win.

Promo: The vignette for Asuka’s arrival to nXt is shown and that arrival...is next!

Promo: Kudos to Bring Me The Horizon. “Happy Song” is one of the main theme songs for nXt Takeover: Respect.

Recap: Clips of the nXt Texas live tour are shown. Balor took a selfie with Breeze lying on the mat after defeating him. That’s pretty funny.

Third Segment

The contract signing table is in the ring and nXt General Manager William Regal is as well. He welcomes what he claims is the hottest and biggest free agent nXt has ever signed, Kana, who will now be known as Asuka. She excitedly walks down to the ring and tries to hype up the crowd.

Asuka yells, “Yeaaaahhhhh. I ‘m happy to be here in nXt!” She awkwardly gets an nXt chant going. She says she wants to be the Women’s champion and signs the contract. The crowd chants her name and she eggs them on until they’re interrupted by Dana Brooke and Emma. Regal tells them how rude it was of them to interrupt but gives Emma a mic anyways. They introduce themselves as the welcoming committee. If Asuka plans to survive in this locker room, she needs to know that Emma and Dana are in charge. They take credit for kicking Charlotte and Becky Lynch out of nXt. Dana says get out of the ring; playtime is over. Asuka looks uncomfortable with getting kicked out of the ring and she stares them down. The crowd chants “No!” but Asuka leaves. She stops on the stage and smiles creepily at the two women.

One cool point for Asuka’s level of excitement and one cool point to nXt for not going the usual route of having a brawl at a contract signing. There’s more intrigue watching Asuka leave the ring and look back, smiling at the two ladies. It builds suspense and that’s a good thing.

Backstage, the cameraman catches up with Tyler Breeze, who is using his selfie stick. He asks about his upcoming Takeover match against Apollo Crews and Crews shows up, saying how excited he is for the match. Then, he won’t get out of Breeze’s way, but he’s just messin’ with him.

Recap: Kyle Edwards tells us what the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is all about: respect and honouring the memory of Dusty Rhodes. Then, he recaps Round 2 action of the tournament. He reveals that Dash & Dawson defeated the Vaudevillains to advance to the Semi-Finals. Next week, we’ll see Finn Balor & Samoa Joe vs. Enzo & Big Cass.

Promo: The Hype Bros say Gable & Jordan won’t beat them and they’re movin’ on to the next round.

Then, we cut to Gable & Jordan talking about the idiotic videos the Hype Bros have been posting online. They say the road ends here and you’re looking at the future winners because they are ready, willing, and Gable. Jordan shrugs it off. They’ll fight on the nXt live tour of Florida.

Closing Segment

nXt Tag Team Championship Match: Blake & Murphy w. Alexa Bliss vs. The Vaudevillains (c)

Gotch and Blake lock up and we’re underway. Gotch goes for an early cover. While Gotch begins working Blake’s arm, Blue Pants arrives to the ring and she chases Alexa Bliss. The two fight their way into the ring and all the way up the ramp to the backstage area.

Gotch tags in English who runs the ropes and stomps on Blake, going for a pinfall. It doesn’t succeed and he engages Blake in a side headlock. Blake reverses it and locks in one of his own, driving English to the mat. After about a minute, English gains enough energy to break free. The two run the ropes with English attempting a dropkick but Blake stopped to tag in Murphy. English bounces back though with a double hip toss and a double dropkick on his opponents. Graves says, “That’s pretty manly!”
English gets double-teamed on the outside and pays for it by getting his back slammed into the ring apron.

We go to commercial.

Blake and Murphy are working quick tags to stomp on English when we return to in-ring action. Murphy goes for a pin and gets a 2 count. Murphy chokes English on the ropes and Blake comes in to cover him for a 2 count. He goes for a chinlock and transitions it into a headlock. English almost makes it back for a tag but Blake pulls English back, tagging in Murphy. A 1 count pinfall and another side headlock follow. Gotch fires up the crowd as English stretches out his hand for a tag, spinning around and throwing Murphy to the outside. English swings a huge right hand and lands it on Murphy when he was re-entering the ring. Tag made and Gotch is striking with hands, knees and feet. He lands two running punches in the corner on Blake. Beautiful back suplex. Fireman’s carry and tags in English. Rolling senton and Gotch is dragged out of the ring by Murphy. English is distracted momentarily and upon going for the senton bomb, Blake gets his knees up. Tag made and Murphy goes to the second rope and slams English’s head into the canvas with his knees. This one’s over, but no! English gets his shoulder up at 2 and 3/4 count. Murphy is stunned. English seizes the moment and rolls him up for a very close 2 count.

Murphy tags in Blake and they attempt a double team move, which English flips out of. Murphy charges and English ducks, sending him over the top rope. Gotch tags himself in and uppercuts Blake, stunning him for English to hit the Whirling Dervish. Gotch pins Blake to win the rematch!

Winner: The Vaudevillains via pinfall in 9 minutes and 28 seconds

One cool point for The Vaudevillains deservedly getting the win. Here’s hoping the winners of the Dusty Classic begin a feud with these guys following Takeover: Respect. One cool point for Blake & Murphy who controlled a good portion of this match and who made me appreciate their talents more tonight than at Takeover: Brooklyn.

Promo: Enzo & Big Cass talk themselves up, saying they’ll be winning the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and Balor and Samoa Joe will be going home.

Finn Balor says Enzo & Cass are his friends, but friendship gets pushed aside for this. Joe says they have a singular purpose to win the tournament. Enzo & Cass might be the realest guys in the room, but they’re the toughest dogs on the block.

One cool point for nXt trying something different to finish the show. By giving the teams of next week’s main event match a chance to put themselves over, it enables wrestling fans to get more excited for the match. We’re two weeks out from nXt Takeover: Respect and guaranteed 4 great matches: the final 3 matches of the Dusty Classic and the 30-minute Ironwoman Women’s Championship match. Things are shaping up well. Share your thoughts below.

Peace!
