Seth Rollins vs. Gunther is officially set for WrestleMania, but the matchup reportedly came together at the last minute.
Rollins recently made his return to WWE programming after being sidelined with a shoulder injury, and it didn’t take long for things to escalate. Shortly after it was announced that he had been medically cleared, Gunther launched an attack, setting the stage for a high-profile clash on “The Grandest Stage of Them All.”
Behind the scenes, the decision to book Rollins vs. Gunther was finalized just one week prior to the March 30 episode of WWE Raw.
The direction wasn’t without debate.
There were reportedly differing opinions within WWE creative, with some pushing for Rollins to continue and wrap up his ongoing “Vision” storyline, while others were more focused on ensuring Gunther had a marquee spot on the WrestleMania card.
In the end, the latter approach won out, leading to the blockbuster match now set for the show.
As of now, Paul Heyman is not expected to be in Gunther’s corner for the bout, leaving the dominant competitor to go it alone on one of WWE’s biggest nights.
WrestleMania 42 is scheduled to take place on April 18 and April 19 from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, NV.
