A notable shift has taken place in WWE’s plans for the El Grande Americano storyline.
After weeks of television building toward a high-profile showdown at WrestleMania 42, the anticipated clash between the Original El Grande Americano and his masked counterpart is no longer expected for WWE’s biggest event of the year.
Instead, the bout appears to be headed in an entirely different direction.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live at F4,WOnline.com, Bryan Alvarez revealed that the match has been pulled from the WrestleMania 42 lineup and is now expected to take place under the AAA banner.
“What happened to El Grande Americano vs. Original El Grande Americano at WrestleMania 42? Well, apparently the El Grande vs. El Grande match is going to happen for AAA,” Alvarez stated. “They’ve got a date booked for that match.”
Alvarez continued, “So they’re not doing a mask vs. mask match between those two guys at WrestleMania, they’re saving that for AAA.”
That’s a pretty significant pivot.
WWE had invested considerable time into developing the feud, particularly following Chad Gable’s return as the Original El Grande Americano and the ongoing tension involving the masked version aligned with Ludwig Kaiser.
WrestleMania 42 is scheduled to take place on April 18 and April 19 from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, NV.
