Baron Corbin’s United States Championship win was reportedly a late creative decision.
When Trick Williams unveiled his custom United States Championship in July, there reportedly was no internal expectation that he would be dropping the title just a few weeks later.
According to sources, throughout the design and development process leading up to the custom championship’s debut, the expectation was that Williams would continue his reign, with no plans in place for the title to change hands so soon.
However, the decision to put the championship on Baron Corbin is said to have come together only recently. The late creative shift reportedly caught a number of people backstage by surprise, as the title change was not part of the original plan when the custom championship was introduced.
Baron Corbin defeated Trick Williams to capture the WWE U.S. Championship at WWE SummerSlam 2026 this past weekend at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN.
