Nick Aldis’ return to the ring at WWE SummerSlam appears to have been a one-time deal, at least for now.
Aldis made his WWE in-ring debut at last weekend’s premium live event, falling to GUNTHER in a match that earned praise from fans. Despite the positive reception, a new report indicates WWE does not currently have plans for the SmackDown General Manager to wrestle again.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter at F4WOnline.com, Dave Meltzer reported that while another match isn’t out of the question down the line, there are no active creative plans for Aldis to step back into the ring.
“Regarding reports of Aldis wrestling again, and of course this is possible, we were told that the creative plan was for one match at SummerSlam and at this point,” Meltzer wrote. “There are no plans for it going forward.”
Meltzer added that the door isn’t completely closed on another match in the future.
“Could it happen in 2027?,” Meltzer continued. “Of course it could, but it is nothing in serious plans.”
The SummerSlam bout fulfilled a longtime goal for Aldis, who has previously said having at least one WWE match was a dream and something he felt he had earned through his accomplishments in the business.
Following the loss to GUNTHER, Paul “Triple H” Levesque reinstated Aldis as SmackDown General Manager during a backstage segment that aired on the WWE SummerSlam post-show.
