Johnny Gargano remains under contract with WWE despite speculation surrounding his status with the company over the weekend.
Gargano sparked discussion on social media after sharing a clip from his surprise WWE return four years ago. The video was posted without a caption and ended with Gargano telling the crowd, “I missed you guys.” The post surpassed one million views and prompted some fans to question whether there was a deeper meaning behind it.
The speculation picked up after claims surfaced that Gargano had changed his X bio, removed references to WWE and indicated he was accepting independent bookings. However, Gargano’s current bio has reportedly been unchanged since 2021.
Additionally, Gargano remains listed on WWE’s internal roster, according to a new report, indicating there has been no change to his status with the company.
Gargano has recently been involved in an ongoing SmackDown storyline that has portrayed him as depressed and, at one point, comatose backstage. His most recent WWE television appearance came on the August 7 episode of SmackDown during a segment involving Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk, Sami Zayn and Candice LeRae.
During the segment, Punk joked that he would give Gargano and LeRae a championship opportunity before granting Zayn another title shot.
Away from television, Gargano recently revealed that his 84-year-old father has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung and prostate cancer. Gargano has not indicated whether the family situation is connected to his current absence from WWE programming.
