Brie Bella has provided another update on the shoulder injury she suffered at WWE SummerSlam, revealing that she will not require surgery but is expected to be sidelined for several months.
Speaking in a new video from the Nikki & Brie Show (see video below), Brie shared that doctors have determined surgery isn’t necessary despite her breaking her scapula in multiple places after taking a cannonball onto the steel steps during her SummerSlam match.
“He was like, ‘It’s really hard to break your scapula. No one does surgery on scapulas. If you really want it, there is one doctor that can do it. But honestly, it’s like breaking your ribs, in a way. You just wait until they slowly heal.’ And so that’s what I have to do.”
Brie described the injury as a “freak accident” and stressed that she doesn’t blame anyone for what happened in the match.
“I do want to say that it’s nobody’s fault. My injury, it’s part of the business.”
She added that she immediately realized the severity of the injury after the spot.
“I broke it on the stairs when I got the cannonball. But it was weird because when it happened, I instantly knew.”
Brie also reiterated comments she made earlier this week about WWE officials encouraging her to stay out of the match after the injury occurred. While she continued to get involved, she admitted the bout had to be adjusted on the fly.
“They kept asking me to stay out, but I kept coming back in. Granted, I missed some big moves, and we all had to readjust on the fly.”
Looking ahead, Brie said she’ll undergo X-rays every two weeks to monitor the healing process and won’t begin physical therapy for another two weeks. As for her expected recovery time, she’s preparing for an extended absence.
“I’m out three to six months. It all depends how my scapula heals.”
