Buddy Matthews is on his way back to All Elite Wrestling.
Matthews suffered an ankle injury in February 2025 and has been sidelined ever since.
Back in May 2026, Matthews appeared for an Australian promotion and got physical in the ring, noting at the time that he expected to be officially cleared to compete by October.
Now, that clearance has arrived.
Taking to Instagram, Matthews posted a video announcing he’s been cleared to return to action (see post below.)
“Before stepping back into the ring, there was one final hurdle,” Matthews wrote. “After suffering a serious ankle injury at AEW Grand Slam: Australia, Buddy Matthews begins the final stage of his comeback—getting medically cleared to compete again.”
He wasn’t done there.
Matthews continued, “This video follows the process behind the scenes, from medical evaluations and rehabilitation to the moment he receives the news every athlete waits to hear. It’s a look at the physical and mental challenges of returning from injury, and what it takes to get back to doing what you love. If you’ve ever faced setbacks, injuries, or doubted whether you’d make it back, this one’s for you.”
There is no word yet on a specific return date for AEW. As always, we will keep you posted here at WrestlingHeadlines.com as updates continue to surface.
