After what was a very disappointing night one of TripleMania 34, what does AAA have in store for us on night two?

Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico is the place. WrestleTix didn’t report on the crowd for this one (I’m assuming due to the show being in Mexico and using a different ticket selling system), so I don’t know what the crowd will be, but Arena CDMX has a larger capacity than the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Either way, I just hope the crowd is a lot better than Friday night’s crowd was.

There are six matches on the card, with four of them being title matches, including the main event that sees Dominik Mysterio defending the AAA Mega Championship against El Grande Americano.

Let’s have some fun.

15-Man Copa Bardahl

We’re starting things off with a Battle Royal, but pins and submissions can lead to eliminations, as well.

Mr. Iguana is the first person to come out, and he’s followed by Abismo Negro Jr. They will be starting the match off.

Histeria is out next, and he’s the stablemate of Abismo Negro Jr, so they’re going to have the numbers advantage for a bit.

Corey Graves says that 18,204 fans are in attendance, which is a big-time number.

Masacarita Sagrada is out next, labeled as the “greatest mini of all-time” by JBL. It’s hard to argue that point.

Taurus is out next, and he’s the third member of Los Vipers in the match. They definitely have the numbers advantage now.

Taurus hits Sagrada with a big Spear. That’s not nice.

El Fiscal is next. He eliminates Abismo Negro, but Abismo Negro returns to the ring and eliminates him as he’s trying to get the rest of Los Vipers out. Things are getting hectic now.

Laredo Kid is out next. He brings a different level of athleticism to the match, and he’s flying around right away.

Mecha Wolf is the next entrant, and in a funny moment, Corey Graves’ voice completely cracks on him as he says “Copa Bardahl.” JBL makes fun of him for it, and Corey mentions that he’s had a long weekend already.

La Parka is out next, and the crowd is going nuts. Histeria is eliminated, and we have La Parka and Mr. Iguana forming a tandem.

El Mesias is next, and the mood in the building has changed. He’s putting bodies down on the mat left and right.

Dinamico is out next, and he gets the quietest reaction of anyone in the match to this point.

It’s funny to watch pin attempts, because the Referees are at ringside. The Ref has to slide in the ring, make the count, and then immediately slide back out.

Dinamico is eliminated, and Corey Graves’ voice has cracked multiple times. No way he makes it to the end of this show.

Texano Jr. is the next entrant.

Well… everything has changed. Omos is the next entrant, and everyone in the ring is bonding together to wait for him. The crowd is chanting “culero” at Omos. For those unaware, that means they’re calling him an asshole.

We get a face-to-dick between Omos and Masacarita Segrada. Texano and Laredo Kid are thrown out by Omos, followed by El Mesias being thrown out. Omos then pins Mecha Wolf, and clotheslines La Parka over the top rope. Hilariously, Omos dances like La Parka after eliminating him.

Chris Carter is out next, and he, too, gets zero reaction from the crowd. In the ring, Omos looks almost confused. Carter gets to the ring and dives at Omos off the top rope, but Omos catches him and throws him out of the match. That was quick.

The last entrant is Nino Hamburguesa, making his return to the company after being fired back in March for an incident that saw him striking a fan in the crowd during a show.

Omos dumps Mr. Iguana out, and then, defying all laws of everything, Mascarita Sagrada dives from the top rope onto Omos’ back and nearly eliminates him, but he eliminates himself in the process. Nino Hamburguesa gets a hope spot, but it isn’t enough, and he gets tossed, too.

For the second straight year, Omos is the winner of Copa Bardahl. Who in the hell is going to stop this man? It was the expected outcome, but it was also the logical outcome. I have to assume Omos is going to be competing for championships soon, and perhaps competing for the Mega Championship.

I don’t rate matches like this, but it did its job to get the crowd excited, so there’s that, I suppose. Lots of quick eliminations and stuff, especially once Omos got in the ring, so you can’t actually call it a GOOD Battle Royal, though.

Flammer vs La Catalina – AAA Reina de Reinas Title Match

This is the 1,128th day of Flammer’s title reign. It’s easily the longest reign in the 27+ year history of the title. She won the title on August 12th, 2023. That was like eight years ago or something.

La Catalina is pretty popular with the crowd.

Flammer brings Catalina out to ringside, and she starts slamming the challenger’s face on the announce table. She’s working with a lot more aggression than the challenger is so far.

A “Catalina” chant breaks out. She’s from Chile, so this could be a very big weekend for Chilean women under the WWE umbrella after Stephanie Vaquer won the Women’s World Title at a house show in her home country yesterday.

On commentary, Corey Graves’ voice continues to go out, but the more I hear it, the more it sounds like he’s actually sick, and not just losing his voice from yelling too much. It sounds like he’s ready to throw up, which is concerning, because nobody is replacing him. I don’t know if they even have anyone to replace him, or if it would just have to be JBL flying solo.

After a very back-and-forth match, La Catalina gets the pin and the win to become the brand new Reina de Reinas Champion. I think that was the best La Catalina match I’ve seen. She showed a ton of fire and was able to use her speed and athleticism to counter Flammer’s power and aggression advantage. 3.5 Stars. Well done. On commentary, JBL lays it on thick by saying that this is one of the biggest moments in Lucha Libre history. I get that Flammer had an epic title reign, but come on, man. Then again, if you’ve ever listened to JBL on his podcasts, I don’t think he knows how to do anything but hyperbole and talk about how great everything is now, so that tracks.

Psycho Clown vs El Carnicero – Mexican Street Fight

Carnicero is WWE developmental talent Drake Morreaux, also known as the man who is the current boyfriend of Roxanne Perez. Take whatever you want from that information. At 6’6″ and 300 pounds, he’s a mountain of a man on the AAA roster, and he looks like a horror movie villain. Then again, Psycho Clown looks like a horror movie villain, too.

I’ve seen a little bit of Drake Morreaux’s work, and it was nothing special. He’s still really green, but someone somewhere enjoyed his work enough to give him this type of a spotlight. He certainly looks the part in this role, though, that’s for sure.

With Psycho Clown tied up in the ropes, Pagano runs out to make the save, but instead of hitting Carnicero with a kendo stick, he simply walks to the other side of the ring and tells Carnicero to attack. Psycho Clown escapes the ropes just in time to take a toolbox to the head. Carnicero gets the win. After the match, Pagano hands the kendo stick to Carnicero, and Carnicero destroys the stick across Psycho Clown’s back.

That was about as basic a Street Fight as you’re going to see. They tried to hide Carnicero behind the stipulation, but that wasn’t 100% successful. Overall, this was decent, but you’ll see regular matches that are more vicious and violent. 2.5 Stars

Rey Fenix vs Jack Cartwheel vs Nathan Frazer vs Mini Vikingo – Fatal Four Way Match for the AAA World Cruiserweight Title

Now we’re talking. I have high hopes for this one. Say it with me, folks. This match is going to have… more spots than a leopard orgy.

It’s worth repeating once again that Mini Vikingo is only 18-years-old. He possesses one of the most jaw-dropping offensive arsenals of anyone in the wrestling business today. He’s still got some work to do before reaching his full potential… obviously… but man, what a bright future he has.

Sure enough, this has been non-stop action from the sound of the opening bell. All four men are flipping, flopping, and flying in every direction.

Poisonrana from Mini Vikingo to Fenix! It didn’t get the pin, but it looked beautiful. “Esto es Lucha” chant from the crowd… “this is wrestling” for you gringos and honkies.

My goodness, this is almost impossible to keep track of. If I even think about looking at my keyboard or my other monitor, I’m missing multiple moves.

German Suplex from the top by Fenix sends Frazer crashing to the mat. Another beautiful spot. I’m almost ready to stop typing and just report on the winner when the match is over. There’s so much going on, and I can’t keep track of it all.

Another “Esto es Lucha” chant breaks out. These guys are making the crowd go crazy. This crowd has been so much better than Friday night’s crowd was. If I never see another wrestling event from Las Vegas, it would be too soon. That is an awful wrestling city, no matter how many hard-ons it gives the TKO executives.

This is a fucking banger of a match. I don’t want it to end.

Sasuke Special (!!!) by Cartwheel!

Mexican Muscle Buster by Fenix on Mini Vikingo is enough to get the win. The champion retains his title in an absolutely incredible match. 4.5 Stars, and that might be underselling it a bit. I know this style isn’t for everybody, but damn, if you like it, this is something you need to go out of your way to see.

After the match, Los Perros del Mal hits the ring and attack everyone that was just in the match. They take all four men out, and dump them to the outside. The crowd goes ballistic for them, chanting and singing. Los Perros del Mal are over like rover. The group stands tall to end the segment. My favorite part about that was the group entering to “Perros” by Cartel de Santa, which was the entrance music for the original Los Perros del Mal group. The crowd popped big for that, and it only grew from there.

The War Raiders vs ??? – Open Challenge for the AAA World Tag Team Titles

I really like Erik and Ivar, but good luck following what we just watched.

El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno answer the open challenge. They’re real-life brothers, and are representing one of the most legendary families in Lucha Libre history.

There’s a lot of beef in the ring right now. At a listed 234 pounds, El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. is the smallest man in the match.

I like that we’re getting this after the match that came before it. It’s not an enviable place for these four men to be, but as fans, it’s giving us something different to watch.

Tope Con Hilo from the 285-pound Galeno! A Frog Splash (called the Blue Whale Splash on commentary by JBL) from Galeno gets the pin and the win, giving us brand new champions.

It was a fun match, but there wasn’t a ton to it. At least what we did get was entertaining. They had a job to do, almost as a “cooldown” between the red-hot Cruiserweight Title match and the main event, and they were successful. 3.25 Stars

Dominik Mysterio vs El Grande Americano – No Disqualification Match for the AAA Mega Title

Main event time.

Much to my surprise, not only has Corey Graves survived to call the main event, but he seems to be doing better now than he did earlier in the show.

The Mexico City crowd loves them some El Grande Americano, and they hate themselves some Dominik Mysterio. It’s such a simple thing to tell a story with.

El Grande Americano is the proverbial and figurative house of fire to start things off. I suppose it would be quite the strange situation if he were a literal house of fire to start things off.

To keep the theme going, this crowd has been on fire.

Dorian Roldan gives his belt to Dom, and Dom uses it to absolutely wear EGA out. Jesus. There are welts all over EGA’s body from those belt shots.

Roldan distracts the ref, allowing for JD McDonagh to show up at ringside and attack EGA. “He’s a puto” chant breaks out from the crowd… and let’s just say that if the chant was in English, there would be some cancellations to follow.

Rayo Americano and Bravo Americano are out to even the odds, and they do so for a minute… until Omos stomps his way out there. Omos takes Rayo and Bravo out, and the crowd is not happy.

The giant goes to chokeslam EGA through the announce table, but a thumb to the eyes stops that. EGA then hits Omos in the little omoses (omosii?), then hits him with a steel chair. Omos angrily charges at EGA, but the challenger moves out of the way, and Omos crashes through the barricade near the timekeeper’s area.

EGA goes to the top rope, but Liv Morgan runs to the ring and knocks him off. Dom with a 619, then a Frog Splash… for 2.999! On commentary, JBL says that Dom’s pin was to crown a new champion. Whoops.

Ref bump! Dom pulls the ref in front of him, and EGA takes him out. Liv hands Dom his title belt, and he hits EGA with it. This is a No Disqualification Match, so that was highly unnecessary.

EGA hits his finisher, but there’s no ref… until Rey Mysterio comes running to the ring wearing a referee’s shirt and a neck brace. He counts the three, and we have a new AAA Mega Champion! The feud between Rey and Dom continues on!

That was overbooked in the best way. You knew you were going to get a ton of shenaniganery with The Judgment Day involved, especially once the No Disqualification part was added on, but the crowd was lava hot for everything. 4 Stars

After the match, a mariachi band is out to sing to the new champion, and the crowd joins them in serenading EGA, who has been given his title belt, and looks to be very emotional. We go off the air with EGA celebrating his victory.

So, so, so, so, so much better than night one was on Friday night. While this still wasn’t a perfect show, it represented AAA and Lucha Libre a lot more, and was entertaining pretty much from start-to-finish.

Once again, thank you for reading. I’ll be back in 15 or so hours with my usual weekly column, but until then, be good to each other, folks.
