CM Punk Gives His Thoughts Regarding George Floyd Protests: “This Country Has A Problem…That Much I Know”

On tonight’s episode of WWE Backstage former superstar and analyst CM Punk spoke about the ongoing protests occurring around the world in the name of George Floyd, who was brutally murdered by a Minneapolis police officer. After WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry spoke about attending a peaceful protest with his kids, Punk was asked to give his input.

I’m a white guy. I’m not here to pretend to understand how black people feel. I don’t think it’s my place to tell them how they need to react. This country has a problem. That much I know. I’m here to tell the white people…you need to listen to your black brothers and sisters and you need to understand where they are coming from. It’s hard to try and walk in somebody’s shoes.

Punk would mention fighting intolerance with intolerance, and tells white people to use their privilege to protect their black brothers and sisters.

This country…there’s almost two Americas. When I get pulled over I’m nervous I’m going to get a ticket. I don’t want to live somewhere where…Mark if your son gets pulled over he’s worried he’s going to get murdered. I’m just here to tell white people you probably need to shut up more and you certainly need to listen more. There’s a problem. The paradox is that the only way to deal with intolerance is with intolerance. If you’re a white person you more than likely are privileged. Use that privilege and support your black brothers and sisters, especially now.

The former WWE champion would then recall President Donald Trump’s comments on the Neo Nazi marchers from Charlottesville, referring to them as “fine people.” Punk uses the moment to remember his grandfather who fought the Nazis in World War II before once again reminding those to protect each other.

The first tattoo I ever in my life saw was a number on my grandfather’s arm…and he rode a horseback towards Nazi panzer tanks and now it’s 2020 and we live in a world where The President says that “Nazi’s are very fine people,” and you can’t walk that back and you can’t tell me he meant something different. If you’re white…use your voice, protect your black brothers and sisters and protect the people who this country was not build for.
