Cruz Montana has a score to settle with Zilla Fatu.
The main event of the August 11 episode of WWE NXT saw Montana take on Grayson Waller, with the winner earning an NXT Championship match at Heatwave on August 30.
Montana appeared to be closing in on the victory when Fatu stormed the ring and attacked both competitors, bringing the match to an abrupt end. Fatu then turned his attention to NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo, staring him down while D’Angelo was on commentary.
During an appearance on Complex Graps following the show (see video below), Montana addressed Fatu’s arrival and made it clear that he believes the interference cost him a championship opportunity.
“Like you said, I had it in the bag,” Montana said. “That number one contendership was mine, and when I first stepped through the doors of NXT, I made a statement and I made my intentions loud and clear.”
Montana acknowledged that Zilla Fatu accomplished something similar by making an immediate impact with his debut. However, he warned that Fatu’s decision to target him now means they have unfinished business.
“Zilla (Fatu) just did the same thing,” he continued. “And I gotta give props where they’re due. The only unfortunate thing for him is now he made it personal, and now we gonna have to handle business. That’s just the way it is.”
