Dave Bautista is officially set to play Kratos in Prime Video’s live-action God of War series.
Deadline reports that the former WWE Champion has closed his deal for the role. Variety has also confirmed that Bautista is now locked in to lead the series.
The development resolves the uncertainty surrounding the casting. WrestlingHeadlines reported on August 9 that Bautista was in negotiations, while emphasizing that the deal had not been finalized and that he should not yet be considered officially cast.
Bautista will replace Ryan Hurst, who suffered a torn biceps during production. The injury required surgery and would have delayed Hurst’s availability until 2027.
Production is now expected to resume in the coming weeks. Scenes previously filmed with Hurst as Kratos will need to be reshot with Bautista.
Prime Video has given God of War a two-season order, with both seasons expected to film back-to-back.
The series will adapt the more recent entries in the video game franchise. The story follows Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they travel to spread the ashes of Faye while confronting gods from Norse mythology.
No premiere date has been announced.
