Today marks a memorable date in history.
April 1, 2026 marks exactly 25 years since what many consider the best WrestleMania event start-to-finish in WWE history.
WrestleMania X-7.
Former WWE head writer and member of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions company Brian Gewirtz surfaced via social media on Wednesday, responding to an account on X celebrating the 25 year anniversary of the legendary show.
According to Gewirtz, WrestleMania X-7, which followed WrestleMania 2000 the year prior, was a case of an incredible show taking place largely due to regret over the quality of the show the previous year.
“Will never forget the afterparty of WrestleMania 2000,” Gewirtz wrote. “No one looked happy.”
Gewirtz would go on to elaborate, painting a more clear picture of the mood behind the scenes in WWE leading up to the memorable historic show.
“It was like ‘um…did we just shit the bed with an overbooked mess of a show and desperately need to get back to 1-1 matches with huge personal issues,'” he continued. “Big letdown that paved the way for the greatest WrestleMania ever, in my opinion.”
WrestleMania X-7, which took place on April 1, 2001, featured memorable high-profile bouts such as “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs. The Rock, The Undertaker vs. Triple H, Vince McMahon vs. Shane McMahon, the TLC match between Edge & Christian, The Dudley Boyz and The Hardy Boyz.
Will never forget the afterparty of WM 2000. No one looked happy. It was like “um…did we just shit the bed with an overbooked mess of a show and desperately need to get back to 1-1 matches with huge personal issues?” Big letdown that paved the way for the greatest Mania ever imo https://t.co/vWqBEhAI0L
