WWE superstar and current Intercontinental champion Gunther recently joined Steve Fall from NBC Sports Boston, where the Ring General discussed a number of marquee wrestling topics, including his thoughts on Survivor Series 2019 and his controversial elimination from one of the five-on-five matchups.
At that time Gunther was in the middle of a dominant run as NXT UK champion, and had yet to be defeated under the WWE banner. Gunther, (WALTER at the time), came into the matchup on the main roster with a lot of support, but was eliminated early on by Drew McIntyre, a decision that had the live crowd and IWC in an uproar. Check out his thoughts on the matchup below.
Gunther didn’t have too much to say regarding the early elimination, adding that when decisions like that are made you try to make the best out of it:
“Yeah, that’s just how things go sometimes. There’s not much you can say. There was a decision that was made and you go along with it and try to make the best out of it. I don’t think it was negative… When I started doing my bit in that match and then getting eliminated early, I think that did something to me.”
Believes losing added to his popularity since fans were speaking out on how upset they were with the decision:
“I think it added to my popularity in that sense because a lot of people spoke about it. I think no harm was done and everybody needs to take a humbling experience here and there. So, I’m totally fine with it.”
