AEW superstar and current tag champion Kenny Omega took to Twitter earlier tonight to comment on the two-year anniversary of his 2018 G1 Climax showdown against Tomohiro Ishii in NJPW. Omega writes, “One of the most physical G1 matches I’ve ever been involved in. Spent 1h 45 minutes after the match at the local hospital getting my lip reconstructed. I’d post pictures, but that’s just gross.”

Ishii would go on to defeat Omega in the match, which earned him a future title opportunity at the Destruction of Hiroshima special later that year. Omega, who was IWGP champion at the time, would successfully defend his gold at that event.
