Kevin Nash is apparently not among the wrestling world’s biggest Nirvana fans.
During Episode 214 of Kliq This, titled “Nirvana is Overrated,” Nash and Sean Oliver were discussing Chris Cornell, Pearl Jam and the music of the 1990s when the conversation turned to Nirvana.
Nash made it clear that the episode title is stronger than the opinion he actually expressed. While he is not a major fan of Nirvana overall, he specifically carved out the band’s MTV Unplugged material before comparing them with Foo Fighters.
“I’m really not a big Nirvana fan. If you take the unplugged Nirvana out of the mix, I would probably say I’m a bigger Foo Fighter fan than I am Nirvana.”
The discussion then turned to Nevermind and the music Nash personally gravitated toward during the period. Rather than identifying Nirvana as his favorite act from the era, Nash said he was listening more heavily to Candlebox.
“I was actually fucking with Candlebox more than that.”
Nash also questioned how much of Nirvana’s status came from the massive cultural wave surrounding the band.
“Nirvana was one of those bands that everybody kind of jumped on their tip.”
His comments were presented as personal musical preference rather than an argument about Nirvana’s commercial success or historical importance. Nash also spoke positively about other acts from the period, including The Verve Pipe and Cake, while reflecting on how much music from the decade continues to resonate with him.
“You forget what a great era. Music was so fucking good.”
The conversation eventually brought Nash back to wrestling and the period in which he, Scott Hall and Hulk Hogan helped turn the nWo into one of WCW’s defining acts. WrestlingHeadlines recently covered Nash reflecting on the faction as its formation reached its 30th anniversary.
Nash summed up his nostalgia for the era by combining the music and wrestling that defined the period for him.
“If you want to make America great again, let’s go back to right there. Let’s go back to grunge. Let’s go back to fucking gangster rap, Death Row, and let’s go back to nWo.”
