According to the Wrestling Observer, New Japan Pro Wrestling was approached by management of Anthem Entertainment regarding a working relationship with IMPACT. NJPW reportedly turned down the offer, thus leading to AXS TV pulling them from the network. This adds yet another layer of dissension between the two companies, which dates back to 2010 when IMPACT mishandled the booking of now top NJPW superstar and IWGP Heavyweight champion, Kazuchika Okada. Officials Don Callis and Scott D’Amore have attempted to repair the relationship but have found no success as of yet.
As for AEW, NJPW’s acknowledgement of the AEW World Championship is an indicator that the two companies may work together after all, especially with NJPW now needing an American network to broadcast on. However, this is just speculation as nothing has been officially confirmed from either side.
