nXt TakeOver WarGames, from Los Angeles, is 3 days away!!!
Opening Segment: Bianca Belair vs. Mia Yim
Just a reminder from the announce team that Belair is undefeated in singles competition.
Highlights include:
Yim side-steps Belair’s dropkick attempt and brings the knee strikes, and three beauty dropkicks off the ropes. A fourth sprawls Belair to the edge of the mat, but Yim falls to the outside when Belair pushes her through the ropes.
Belair applies pressure to Yim’s chin, jaw and forehead, slowing the pace of the match. Rollup attempt for 2 by Yim. Then, a 1 count attempt.
Reversal by Belair and she gets a pinfall attempt of her own for a 2 count. She tries to pin Yim with just her foot, but that won’t do.
Submission attempts continue, including Belair sitting on Yim’s back, picking hair out of her fingers. She begins bragging about being the best when Yim powers out and covers her for 2.
Belair misses a leg drop after another submission. Yim takes advantage of that. Drop toe hold causes Belair to fall into the turnbuckle. Duck and clothesline, then dropkicks again by Yim.
Gutwrench suplex for a 2 count! Belair almost lost it. Crowd’s finally getting into this one.
Bicycle kick by Yim targets Belair’s head, but only gets a 2 count.
Belair hoists up Yim for the K.O.D (Torture Rack into Facebuster). 1-2-3.
Winner: Bianca Belair via pinfall in 8 minutes
Watson says he doesn’t know what else Belair needs to do to prove she should get a title opportunity. Completely agree with that.
1 cool point for Belair. That braided ponytail spinning E.S.T. wrestled a slightly different style of match, resorting to submission moves to drain energy from Yim. The last few minutes picked up and effectively took out Yim, but both ladies had a great showing. Belair is ready for Sane or Baszler.
Backstage, Cathy Kelley is with War Raiders, nXt North American Champion Ricochet, and nXt UK Champion Pete Dunne, to discuss the WarGames advantage match. The Undisputed Era will send Kyle O’Reilly into this singles match. Dunne and Ricochet begin to argue until Rowe yells, “Enough!” Hanson says he’s doing it.
Second Segment: Riddle Answers Ohno
One of the songs for Takeover: WarGames is “Wonderful Life” by Bring Me The Horizon.
A preview for the Aleister Black vs. Johnny Gargano Takeover: Los Angeles match is shown.
It highlights the “Who attacked Black” mystery of the past few months, mixing it with Johnny Gargano’s recent interview footage.
Matt Riddle is interviewed by Cathy Kelley. Kassius Ohno storms into the interview and says he’s been waiting for an answer via nXt General Manager William Regal’s office all week. He didn’t get it though and he’s seeing through all the hype of the BroShow. It’s trash.
Riddle says next week he’ll take Ohno’s little test. Ohno storms off. Riddle tells Kelley not to apologize because he’s used to stuff like that.
One of the songs for Takeover: WarGames is “Voices” by Motionless In White.
Third Segment: Lacey Evans vs. Karissa Rivera
Evans gives her hat to a fan in the crowd before the match. Nice touch.
Highlights include:
McGuinness calling Evans the epitome of elegance.
Drop toe hold by Evans and Evans does pushups with her hands on Rivera’s back.
Rivera with two-hand chops and a running dropkick on Evans for a 1 count.
Evans’ demeanour changes and she snaps. She keeps touching her chest in disgust…WOMEN’S RIGHT!
She tells the referee to count. 1-2-3.
Winner: Lacey Evans via pinfall in 2 minutes
Post-match, Evans gets on the mic and says the nXt girls have forgotten how to carry themselves with sophistication. Evans reminds us she is the “Lady of nXt”. She will teach every single one of them a class of manners with the Women’s Right.
1 cool point for Evans. She added a few more character touches, with the hat giveaway and wiping her brow with a napkin mid-match. Plenty of character and an expectedly decisive result in the ring tonight.
A preview for the nXt Championship match between Tommaso Ciampa (c) and Velveteen Dream is shown.
One of the songs for Takeover: WarGames is “Mariana Trench” by Nita Strauss.
A preview for the nXt Women’s Championship match between Shayna Baszler (c) and Kairi Sane is shown. This is their Evolution rematch and it will be 2 out of 3 falls. Sane’s interview leads the package, and Sane says Baszler can’t pin her twice.
Final Segments: Hanson vs. Kyle O’Reilly for the WarGames Advantage
Highlights include:
Hanson soaking up the initial offense of O’Reilly before blasting him to the mat and through the ropes to the floor below.
Irish whip into the turnbuckle causes O’Reilly to collapse to the mat.
Drumbeats of destruction in the corner as O’Reilly lies on the corner of the top ropes. When O’Reilly returns to the ring, he changes his offense and begins kicking at Hanson’s knees. Those strikes eventually fell the trunk legs of Hanson, especially that left knee.
Hanson catches a kick by O’Reilly, but nothing doing. Chop block by O’Reilly awkwardly brings down Hanson.
In the middle of the mat, O’Reilly locks in a kneelock and switches to a heel hook. Hanson’s got nowhere to go. Eventually, he lands his heel on O’Reilly’s jaw.
O’Reilly doesn’t seize upon this and allows Hanson time to bring his offense in. Splash off the ropes and Hanson’s delivering the boots to this guy. O’Reilly fights back with a knee to the face. Hanson clobbers O’Reilly with a haymaker. He kicks O’Reilly to the floor, bounces off the ropes and bullets at O’Reilly who lands roughly on the ramp.
Hanson sits on the turnbuckle, just as Adam Cole yells “Don’t you dare!” to Hanson. He’s on the ramp, pointing at Hanson not to do it. O’Reilly’s on the mat and he rolls out of the way, as Hanson moonsaults for a miss.
O’Reilly turns this into a nasty ankle lock, but Hanson breaks the count by getting to the ropes. Just as the referee is tending to O’Reilly, Cole jumps and kicks Hanson in the head! 1-2- no! Kickout.
Cole gets up on the apron and complains. Rowe charges down the ramp and knocks out Cole. He slams the apron, trying to fire up Hanson.
O’Reilly returns to his kicking strategy, leg strikes to the sides and legs of Hanson. Meanwhile, Rowe throws Cole into the steel steps. He’s attacked from behind by Roderick Strong and Bobby Fish. This brings out Pete Dunne. Dunne punches all 3 Undisputed Era members. His right knee is taken out by Fish at the bottom of the ramp.
Suddenly, Ricochet is in the ring and he soars over the top rope, splashing everybody!
Inside the ring, O’Reilly has an nXt Tag Team Championship and he nails Hanson in the head. Referee doesn’t see it. 1-2-3. The Undisputed Era will get the advantage at WarGames.
Winner: Kyle O’Reilly via pinfall in 12 minutes
The Undisputed Era celebrate on the stage as the two teams look at one another to finish the show.
One cool point for both men. O’Reilly’s got to have one of the most sensible wrestling offenses in nXt. Leg strikes, leg submissions, resorting to cheap tactics to win, these are all sensible ways to win a wrestling match. Hanson’s a beast of a man, but he never got on a roll tonight. O’Reilly and the Undisputed Era were seemingly a step or two ahead, using the numbers game to their advantage. We’ll see if War Raiders, Ricochet and Dunne learn their lesson on Saturday.
Here’s the Takeover: WarGames card and my predictions:
War Raiders, Ricochet (NAc) & Pete Dunne (UKc) def. Undisputed Era in WarGames
Tommaso Ciampa (c) def. Velveteen Dream
Shayna Baszler (c) def. Kairi Sane (2 out of 3 Falls)
Aleister Black def. Johnny Gargano
What are your cool point suggestions from tonight’s show? What are your Takeover predictions? Gonna be another awesome show, folks. Type them out below in the comments section.
