As noted, Kairi Sane is reportedly heading back to Japan to be with her husband. She reportedly finished up with WWE at Monday’s RAW TV tapings, which included an episode to air next week.
Last night’s RAW saw Sane win a non-title match over WWE Women’s Tag Team & SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley.
There had been reports of WWE writing Sane out of the company with an injury angle on RAW, that would set up the SummerSlam match for RAW Women’s Champion Asuka. It was noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the original plan had Natalya being the one to attack Sane. Natalya and WWE Producer Tyson Kidd have been off for a few weeks now, apparently due to COVID-19 concerns, but not positive test results.
It was speculated that Shayna Baszler was brought back to RAW this week to be the one who attacks Sane. Baszler was shown watching the Sane vs. Bayley match on RAW, and spoke to Charly Caruso about how she had a vested interest in the match, like a shark watching prey.
Baszler vs. Asuka had been one of the plans for SummerSlam at one point, which adds to the speculation that Baszler will be the one to take Sane out.
Asuka will defend her title against WWE Women’s Champion Sasha Banks on next week’s RAW, and that could be where the whole storyline furthers for the SummerSlam build.
Sane is returning to Japan but will still be affiliated with WWE in some way, but not an active member of the roster. She is leaving WWE on good terms.
