Eric Bischoff doesn’t expect Vince McMahon to make a significant return to WWE or the public spotlight.
Speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast (see video below), Bischoff addressed speculation surrounding McMahon’s future and questioned what benefit there would be in the former WWE owner attempting a high-profile comeback.
“Everybody is kind of like assuming Vince wants to get back in the spotlight,” Bischoff said. “I’m not sold on that. I highly doubt that we’re going to see a high-profile Vince McMahon.”
Bischoff believes McMahon could potentially make occasional appearances for WWE, including something along the lines of a Hall of Fame appearance. However, he doesn’t envision McMahon returning as a regular television character or becoming involved in storylines.
“We’ll see him,” Bischoff continued. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he makes some smaller appearances in WWE, Hall of Fame-type of appearances, but he’s not going to be on regular programming. I don’t see a storyline with him. I don’t see him being a face of the company in any way, shape or form.”
Bischoff added that he believes the baggage surrounding McMahon would outweigh any potential benefit of bringing him back into a prominent role.
“The baggage that he has with him, regardless of how these things settle out, outweighs the benefit.”
The former WCW executive also weighed in on the possibility of McMahon eventually returning to the TKO Group Holdings board, something he views as even less likely.
“I don’t know the rest of the board, right? I don’t know Ari Emanuel,” Bischoff said. “I don’t know any of them. It’s hard to really say.”
From Bischoff’s perspective, however, there would be little reason for TKO to bring McMahon back into the fold.
“From my perspective, I don’t see that either,” he added. “I see that being even more remote. What added value does Vince McMahon bring to the board? He doesn’t. He brings baggage.”
Bischoff then offered a particularly pointed comparison regarding McMahon’s public image.
“He’s not Harvey Weinstein, he’s not quite there. He’s not Bill Cosby, but he’s in the same neighbourhood. It’s the same zip code.”
