Brock Rechsteiner could be WWE-bound in the not-too-distant future.
The son of Scott Steiner and cousin of WWE star Bron Breakker is currently pursuing an NFL career after signing with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent wide receiver this offseason. However, Rechsteiner was recently handed a six-game suspension for violating the NFL-NFLPA performance-enhancing substances policy.
Rechsteiner was already considered a long shot to make the Saints’ final roster, and his suspension is expected to make that path even more difficult.
During a recent discussion on Wrestling Observer Radio at F4WOnline.com, Dave Meltzer predicted that Rechsteiner could ultimately make the jump to WWE sooner rather than later.
“I expect he will be WWE bound within a couple months.”
Meltzer also discussed Rechsteiner’s chances of sticking with New Orleans following the suspension.
“I mean, suspended or not, he was a long shot to make the team. I mean, he wasn’t drafted or anything like that. The suspension can’t help his odds of making the team at all. He was suspended for six games, so when it comes to being cut, he’s probably getting cut.”
Should Rechsteiner’s NFL opportunity come to an end, professional wrestling would be an obvious potential next step given his family background. Meltzer compared the situation to Breakker’s own football career before he ultimately landed with WWE.
“But his future is probably WWE, and he’s said as much as well. I think he’s giving the football a shot. It’s the exact same thing that Bronson had, where he wasn’t suspended, obviously, but he was in the Ravens camp and he was cut. He was a long shot to make it, undrafted.”
Meltzer continued by pointing to the athletic traits both Rechsteiner and Breakker possess.
“Great athlete. I mean, his athletic numbers, Bronson’s athletic numbers were great. He had very good speed, great strength, but too short for his position essentially for the NFL, which, that’s just how they viewed it. And his cousin is a wide receiver, good-looking, good body. But yeah, I mean, I could see him in WWE easily and getting fast-tracked just like Bron.”
