Jeff Jarrett believes Dominik Mysterio’s versatility could actually be working against him when it comes to his current WWE booking.
Recent rumors have suggested Mysterio is unhappy with how he is being used on the WWE main roster compared to his presentation in AAA. Speaking on his “My World” podcast (see video below), Jarrett addressed the speculation and compared Mysterio’s situation to those of Dolph Ziggler and The Miz, who were often trusted to fill a variety of roles throughout their WWE careers.
“If he’s [Dominik] really frustrated, then I think he has enough equity in his career…he’s not a newcomer anymore, he’s been there five, six, seven years, and he’s delivered,” Jarrett said. “He may be playing the role of helping Danhausen to go through this. You can go back through the history of the business and, sometimes, if you are so versatile, ala Dolph Ziggler, ala The Miz, if you’re so versatile, they [WWE creative] know, ‘all right, we’re going to run him with Danhausen’ [because they can make it work] maybe even for a year.”
Jarrett explained that dependable performers can sometimes find themselves being used wherever WWE needs them because creative knows they can make almost anything work.
“When you have a two or a three hour show and you’re looking to, I hate to say fill segments…but that is what it gets down to,” he continued. “I know they’re [WWE] going to put all eyes [on every product]. They’ve got multiple PLEs, but when you’re in this process of churning out [content] week in and week out on those different teams…when you look on that roster and say, ‘Oh God, I got to do a two segment, man, Dolph, I’ll take you. I’ll take you because [I know] it’ll be quality.’”
Jarrett said that while being able to work anywhere on the card makes a wrestler valuable, it can also prevent them from being consistently positioned at the top.
“And it’s kind of a mixed bag, the value of being multi-talented and multifaceted and being able to be plugged in and played top to the bottom of the card can work against you.”
Despite that, Jarrett expects Mysterio to eventually move back into a more serious and prominent role on WWE television.
“He’ll [Dom] pivot from that and slotback to where he needs to be, because he’s that good,” Jarrett said. “Sometimes the talented guys that are multi-talented play multiple roles because they’re the best at it. And then they’ll get them back up the creative ladder.”
