The August 21 episode of WWE SmackDown reportedly set a new gate record for the company in Toronto.
According to one source, the word making the rounds backstage was that Friday’s show at Scotiabank Arena was the highest-grossing SmackDown event WWE has ever held in Toronto.
It was noted that 15,526 tickets had been distributed for the show. The main event, featuring CM Punk defending the Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens, had been announced two weeks in advance.
For comparison, the February 28, 2025 SmackDown in Toronto, held one night before Elimination Chamber, reportedly drew 11,905 fans. The July 5, 2024 edition drew just under 17,000, while the August 18, 2023 show at Scotiabank Arena drew a reported 14,291 fans for what was billed at the time as Edge’s final WWE match.
Punk successfully retained his championship against Owens in Friday’s main event. Sami Zayn became heavily involved during the closing stages before attacking both Punk and Owens after the match.
