AEW Battle of the Belts IX
Live Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Virginia! Picking up where we left off at Collision, Tony Schiavone lets us know that something is happening backstage. The street fight is underway!
Match #1. AEW World Tag Team Championship: Big Bill & Ricky Starks vs. Sammy Guevara & Chris Jericho
Brawl starts outside as Jericho takes a trashcan lid to Starks and throws Bill into a truck. Starks is here with a bat and Bill chokeslams Jericho on the ground. Guevara is here with a golf cart and he runs over both Bill and Starks! Two counts on both. Starks looks like he may have gotten his ankle run over here. Guevara and Jericho team up on Bill, who shoves them off and finds a bag, and beats both Jericho and Guevara with it. Turns out, there are bricks in the bag, of course. Bill chucks a brick at Guevara but he moves and it goes through a window. Jericho is here and both guys double suplex Bill through the roof and windshield of a card. Rhett Titus is here because that was his car, so he eats a Judas Effect. Starks is back as he and Jericho brawl to the backstage area. Starks takes a plunger to the face of Jericho so Jericho vacuums his face. There are Christmas decorations involved. Starks gets a two count, somehow. Jericho photocopies Starks face. Bill and Sammy are in the concessions now, with Sammy choking him with a tablecloth. Jericho sprays a beer in Starks face. Jericho blasts Sammy in the face with a big serving tray. Bill sends Sammy into the wall but Guevara backflips over him and superkicks him in the face. Sammy then find a fire extinguisher and sprays it in the face of both guys. Jericho takes the fire extinguisher can to the face of Bill. Jericho sprays mustard in the eyes of Bill as Starks beats Sammy over the head with a water jug. All four men make it to the arena and the fans are on their feet. Jericho and Big Bill are on top of a huge speaker as Bill tries to chokeslam Jericho off, but Jericho low blows him. Takeshita is here and he blasts Jericho in the face with a kendo stick, allowing Bill to powerbomb Jericho off the speaker through the table! Guevara sets Starks up on the side stage area and climbs up to this ridiculously tall scaffold and swantons off, but Powerhouse Hobbs helps Starks escape and Sammy comes crashing down! Starks covers for the win!
Winners and STILL AEW World Tag Team Champions: Big Bill & Ricky Starks
Rating: ***1/2 This was a wildly fun, chaotic brawl that had the fans oohing and aahing the entire time. The Jericho stuff didn’t seem to play a factor and the fans were just here for a good time. Guevara got to do his crazy stuff and Bill and Starks still look strong. Fun match.

Match #2. AEW TBS Championship: Julia Hart (c) vs. Anna Jay
Hart attacks early but Jay rolls her up for two. Both women trade head shots into the turnbuckle with Hart missing a handspring in the corner. Jay misses a running leg lariat and goes shoulder-first into the turnbuckle. Hart then throws Jay into the guardrail on the outside shoulder-first. Two count back inside the ring, as Hart controls Jay throughout the commercial break. Back from break and both women are favoring their shoulders. Facebuster by Jay gets two. Queenslayer is locked in but Hart counters into one of her own. Flatliner by Jay gets two. Jay looks to finish with a spinning back kick but Hart ducks and takes Jay down, before locking in Hartless. Jay taps!

Rating: **. I can’t help but feeling like there should have been more to this.
Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, Satnam Singh, and Jeff Jarrett are falling apart at the seams in the back room.
Match #3. AEW International Championship: Orange Cassidy (c) vs. Preston Vance
The Undisputed Kingdom have joined at ringside. Discus lariat by Vance and Cassidy rolls outside immediately. Cassidy rolls back in and Vance follows… Orange Punch! Both men down. Vance counters Beach Break. Huge boot by Vance and Cassidy fights back with heavy chops as both guys find themselves on the top turnbuckle. Vance shoves Cassidy off and follows with a shoulder tackle off the middle rope. Slingshot wheelbarrow suplex by Vance and a pump kick. Cassidy rolls outside, right at the feet of the Undisputed Kingdom. Outside-in delayed suplex by Vance gets two. Deadlift vertical suplex by Vance gets another two count. Cassidy looks for a sunset flip but Vance holds on and delivers a stiff forearm to the face. Vance in control throughout the PIP and he finally locks in the Full Nelson. Cassidy goes hands in pockets but Vance stops it… momentarily. Shotgun dropkick by Cassidy and a suicide dive to the outside. Satellite DDT back inside but Vance counters with a spinebuster. Boots in the corner by Vance. Cassidy does some Orange chops and then follows with a big superkick. Cassidy stomps a mudhole in the corner. Stundog Millionaire and a Satelite DDT! Long two count. Vance rolls to the outside and Cassidy comes off the top with a crossbody. Vance catches him and throws him into the Undisputed Kingdom! Back in the ring, roll up by Cassidy gets two. Vance locks in the Full Nelson and Cassidy steps on the feet, eventually breaking the hold. Cassidy ducks the discus lariat and delivers an Orange Punch. Beach Break finishes this one.
Winner and STILL AEW International Champion: Orange Cassidy
Rating: ***. Fine match here, it’s nice to see a new face like Vance challenge for the title. Cassidy just keeps finding ways to win.
Undisputed Kingdom dispose of Vance after the match and applaud Cassidy as we go off the air.
Final Thoughts: Another Battle of the Belts, another night of predictable outcomes. It’s not always the worst thing in the world, but in order to get people tuning in after two hours of Collision, you’re going to need to spice it up. The opener was a blast, Cassidy’s International run is still going strong, and I think Hart may benefit from some more veteran challengers at this point in her young career. 7.0/10.
