Live from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada! Kevin Kelly and Nigel McGuinness are on the call and we’re sending it down to Tony Schiavone in the ring!
Tony welcomes Darby and Sting but wait, Jericho comes out instead. Minoru Suzuki is with him! Jericho isn’t from Toronto, he’s from Winnipeg, and he hates this place. Jericho just wants to know who Sting and Darby’s partner is. Who can they get that’s tougher than Suzuki? The fans chant for Suzuki as Jericho tells them Sammy isn’t here tonight because he’s a little upset.
Who’s Sting going to get to beat Le Suzuki Gods? Jericho will beat the teeth out of Tony Schiavone’s head because he wants his answer now!
It’s Stinnnggggggg! And Darby.
Darby takes the mic and wonders if Sammy smartened up and realized he doesn’t need Jericho? If Sammy shows up, he’s going to get his ass kicked, just like Darby and Sting’s partner kicked Jericho’s ass… at the Tokyo Dome.

Match #1. Swerve Strickland vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi
Crowd is insane for Tanahashi and here we go! Stalemate in the lock up and a springboard cross body block. Kevin Kelly is doing a fantastic job on commentary putting over how Tanahashi has changed his game as he’s gotten older, by the way. Air guitar by Tanahashi. Air guitar by Swerve but a dropkick to the knee by Tanahashi and a tieres by Swerve. Swerve kicks the rope as Tanahashi enters the ring and hits a pump kick to the face. Tanahashi tries a baseball slide but Swerve catches him under the ring apron and pounds on him. Tanahashi confuses Swerve with Nana on the outside in a funny spot as Swerve attacks from behind. Swerve in control with strikes but Tanahashi fires back with a flying forearm. Body slam by Tanahashi before coming off the middle rope with a somersault senton. Tanahashi tries a Slingblade but Swerve ducks a connects with a Rolling Thunder Flatliner. Tanahashi escapes a pin attempt and hits the Dragon Screw and a Slingblade. Two count. Tanahashi up top… High Fly Flow but Swerve gets the knees up! Short kick to the bad knee of Tanahashi and the Swerve Kick. Swerve up top now and the Swerve Stomp misses. Slingblade number two. High Fly Flow attempt now but Tanahashi loses his footing and Swerve runs up top, but Tanahashi shoves him off and connects and this one is over!
Winner: Hiroshi Tanahashi
Rating: **3/4. Decent match between these two here, but unfortunately, it looks like Tanahashi’s injuries are catching up to him. Tana looks considerably slower here, but these two still had a passable match.
MJF’s music hits and he’s on the tron. MJF said he’s going to embarrass Tanahashi on Sunday and he told Tony Khan that he’s only showing up in Canada if he’s the first match. MJF doesn’t want to stay in Canada longer than he has to.
Match #2. Brody King w/ Julia Hart vs. Andrade el Idolo
Andrade ducks a big boot and a lariat before coming back with a dropkick to the knee of King. Up and over tieres by Andrade and TRANQUILOOOO! Andrade sends King to the floor and posts him. Andrade comes off the top turnbuckle with a moonsault all the way to the floor! One count. Back elbow and some heavy chops by Andrade but King chops Andrade so hard he goes over the turnbuckle and to the floor. King in control through the PIP, controlling with heavy overhands inside and outside the ring. Back from commercial as King delivers a brutal double chop. King focuses the attack on the injured pec of Andrade, but Andrade fights back with brutal elbows. Ten Beats of the Bowery by King.. but instead, it’s three. King now chokes Andrade over the apron but Andrade stuns him on the rope. Jawbreaker back in the ring and a dropkick into the middle turnbuckle. King misses a big boot and Andrade hits the dragon screw leg whip between the middle rope. Crossbody off the top by Andrade and another dragon screw. Flying forearm by Andrade and both men are down. Big lariat in the corner by Andrade and a charging double knee strike! Two count. Andrade goes up top but King catches him with a huge rolling elbow. Death Valley Driver attempt by King but King’s knee buckles, King gets up, and it’s a running Death Valley Driver into the corner! Brutal landing. Cannonball in the corner by King! Ganso Bomb attempt by King but the knee gives out again and Andrade chop blocks from behind. Figure four attempt but Hart is on the apron with Andrade’s mask. Andrade shifts his attention and King tries a lariat and misses. Step-in kick to a back elbow by Andrade! Figure four is locked in… make that a figure eight! Buddy Matthews hits the ring just as King is about to tap.
Winner by Disqualification: Andrade el Idolo
Rating: ***3/4.
Matthews and King put the boots to Andrade after the bell. Ganso Bomb and they’ve stolen Andrade’s mask! Malakai Black appears on the tron as we fade to black.
Christian Cage and Luchasaurus join Tony Schiavone in the ring. Christian runs down Toronto and said he was the reason Kawhi Leonard left. Alright then.

Match #3. Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament: Willow Nightingale vs. Nyla Rose w/ Marina Shafir
Both women using their strength early, with Willow taking advantage with some heavy chops in the corner. Nyla catches a chop and we’ve got a test of strength. Victory roll by Willow gets two. Shotgun dropkick sends Rose into the corner and Willow follows but Marina Shafir gets in her face, allowing Nyla to get the upper hand. Nyla puts the boots to a downed Willow in the corner as we go to commercial. Back from break and a running back elbow by Willow and a clothesline in the corner. Missile dropkick off the second rope by Willow gets two. Willow tries to get Nyla up for the Babe With the Powerbomb, but she can’t, and Nyla counters with a vertical suplex and a gordbuster. Nyla puts Willow on the top turnbuckle and looks for a powerbomb but Nyla fights her off and just attacks with strikes to the back. POUNCE by Willow! Babe With the Powerbomb PLANTS Nyla! One, two, three!
Winner: Willow Nightingale
Rating: *3/4. Not a lot here until the closing seconds, as this one felt like a real clash of styles.
The Outcasts are here and surround the ring, but Skye Blue makes the save with a chair and The Outcasts bail.
Match #4. Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Jeremy Prophet
Body block by Hobbs. Back elbows in the corner. Hammers to the chest. Spinebuster.

Match #5. CMFTR & Ricky Starks vs. Bullet Club Gold & Gunn Club
Mixed reaction for Punk but MAN is it loud. Punk and white to start! White flexes and gets shoved by Punk, then tags Juice. Juice eats a shoulder block and Dax is in. Dax and Juice trade shoulder blocks. Senton by Juice and Austin gets the tag. Dax fires back with some chops and a snap suplex. Irish whip into the ropes and a shoulder block from cash inside from the apron. Starks tries to go old school and does. Juice comes in and gets chopped. White in now after a quick tag but Starks backs him off. White begs for Punk to make the tag and does! Crowd boos Punk as both guys exchange chops in a heated tie-up. Punk with mounted punches in the corner. Boots by White before sending Punk to the floor, to the waiting arms of the Gunn Club and Juice. Juice and Dax legal now and both men are fighting on the top rope. Superplex by Dax. Doomsday Device, kind of, by FTR and Jay White makes the save at two. Colten in now, big splash on Cash in the corner. Slingshot by Cash into the top turnbuckle and a two count. Victory roll by Cash for two. Big chop drops Colten. Punk gets the tag and the backbreaker/elbow drop combo a la Demolition gets two. Neckbreaker by Punk. Two count. Punk gets distracted by Jay White and Colten catches him with a big lariat before tagging Austin. Quick tags now as Jay White is in with a dragon screw leg whip. Bear hug now as we head to PIP. Punk on the top rope now and White follows him, but Punk goes to the eyes. Crossbody by Punk but the injured ribs prevent him from making the tag. White up with Punk so Punk can’t tag, and both men are slugging away. Chop block by White but Punk rebounds with a running knee in the corner. Bulldog attempt by Punk but switches course and clotheslines Juice before connecting with the neckbreaker on Jay White. The Gunn’s pull FTR off the apron so Punk is by himself. Juice looks for the GTS on Punk but Punk gets free, disposes of the Gunn’s, and makes the tag to Starks. DDT to Juice! Alabama Slam to Austin. Tornado DDT to Colten! RoShamBo to Austin but Juice interrupts and a brawl breaks out. Back body drop by White to Dax on the floor. Blind tag by Jay White but Starks catches him with a sit-out Blue Thunder Bomb. Roll up by White with the tights for two. Snow Plow by Starks but Juice breaks up the pin. Piledriver by Dax on Juice. 3:10 to Yuma by Gunn’s to Dax. Cash military presses Colten to the floor and follows with an insane suicide dive that overshoots everyone. Uranage by White to Punk. Uranage to Starks! Long two count. Bladerunner by White but Stars counters into a spear. Spear to Colten. Spear to Austin. Spear attempt to Jay White but he sidesteps and Juice cracks Starks with a left hand, as Starks stumbles into the Bladerunner and that’s it!
Winners: Bullet Club Gold & Gunn Club
Rating: ***1/2. Excellent eight-man tag here in the main event. Seems like it’s going to be “CM Punk and FTR wrestle 30 minutes every Saturday”, and if they have dance partners like this, I’ll be okay with it. Jay White is on that “meteoric rise” as they say, and The Gunn’s are absolutely bringing it. The heat for Punk was not surprising, but the fans also really love Ricky Starks. Great crowd made this a fun watch.
Final Thoughts: The pacing of this show just feels so different than anything else AEW does, and that’s why it stands so well on it’s own. The main event and the Brody King and Andrade match both overdelivered, and the rest of it wasn’t bad. Forbidden Door looks like a blast so I’ll see you all here tomorrow night! 7.5/10
