As noted earlier, WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon recently issued an edict where Otis, Keith Lee, Dabba-Kato, Omos and Mace were sent back to the WWE Performance Center for two classes per week, taught by Adam Pearce and Drew Gulak, to help “refine and improve” their in-ring abilities. In an update, Fightful Select reports many wrestlers were told to keep the new edict quiet, for obvious reasons, but word ended up leaking out. While Lee, Otis, Kato, Mace and Omos were the names mentioned, word is that there are supposed to be other wrestlers included in the edict. It was also said that this is not in relation to any kind of heat on any specific wrestler.
Some people in the WWE locker room, and some at the WWE Performance Center, were baffled with the decision to send Lee back for classes as he’s considered to be one of the better in-ring workers, regardless of size. Many believed and shared the sentiment that Lee was caught up in this group based on his size, and otherwise would not have been included.
Otis is well-liked backstage but word is that there have been a few spots in recent months that got the attention of people backstage in the Gorilla Position, who believed Otis could be safer in the ring. There wasn’t said to be any heat in association with that.
Omos was a name that many expected to be sent to the class, but word is that WWE had planned to have him on RAW during WrestleMania season, and didn’t do much to prepare him for the spot from an in-ring perspective. He’s had a half-dozen matches in WWE NXT, and is said to need either a lot of work, or some major smoke & mirrors at this point.
Regarding Mace, the former Dio Maddin, most chalked him being in the class up to being out of the ring for the majority of a year after being taken off the RAW announce team. Mace did wrestle some NXT live event matches in top spots earlier this year.
