Bruce Prichard says WWE was interested in introducing a Sandman gimmick at some point in the 90s, one that had nothing to do with the famous ECW character.

Prichard discussed this topic on the latest edition of his Something To Wrestle With podcast, where he revealed that the great Dustin Rhodes and the legendary Stone Cold Steve Austin were both considered for the Sandman role. Check out what he had to say about the gimmick in the highlights below.

Says Steve Austin and Dustin Rhodes were considered for a Sandman gimmick:

I could go back to Steve Austin and ‘The Ringmaster’ and ‘Sandman’ were two gimmicks that we loved. We loved the name of The Sandman, a really smooth wrestler that could have the sleeper as a finish and different things but he had to be a real smooth worker and we discussed Dustin Rhodes for that, we discussed Steve Austin for that.

On The Ringmaster eventually going to Steve Austin:

Then The Ringmaster, the master of the ring that could just out wrestle everybody and be this incredible technician which eventually went to Stone Cold Steve Austin. We never did do a Sandman.
