Analyst CM Punk returned for last night’s WWE Backstage episode on FS1, joining Christian, Renee Young, and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T on the panel. Below are some highlights and videos:
* Punk opened the show facing away from the camera, trying to look like the SmackDown mystery hacker, apparently playing off the rumors
* The WrestleMania 3 Watch Party aired on FS1 as the lead-in to Backstage. Booker recalled trying to create the battle between WWE Hall of Famers Ricky Steamboat and Randy Savage with his brother as it inspired him in a major way. Booker suggested all the younger wrestlers watch Savage vs. Steamboat
* They are all happy for Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins. Punk said there’s a void in the women’s division now and someone needs to step up and fill it
* They talked more about Steamboat vs. Savage before welcoming Steamboat as their guest. Punk called Steamboat vs. Savage the perfect match. Steamboat said it’s amazing how they still talk about the match 33 years later. Steamboat said they just wanted to have the match of the night that night. Steamboat and Punk talked about working together in ROH and Steamboat knew Punk had “it” back then. Steamboat also gave a tour of his office
* Otis joined the show with his Money In the Bank briefcase. Booker asked about a big singles run but Otis said Heavy Machinery is still running strong as Tucker is his big brother and the person he needs to keep him calm. Punk said he thinks Otis should kick Mandy Rose to the curb and watch out for Tucker because they both will try to take the briefcase from him. Otis didn’t agree but Booker did. Otis talked about wanting to cash in now and also said it looks like he will do some singles action
* The panel talked more about the WWE HQ MITB Ladder Match. Punk said it was a good way to get creative during difficult times, and Dana Brooke stood out for him. Punk also loved the Boneyard Match at WrestleMania 36. Booker wasn’t a fan of the MITB match and wanted to see a more serious match. WWE Hall of Famer Edge also made an appearance and joked around with Christian about taking the spotlight
* CM Punk had a box of the new Good Humor WWE ice cream sandwiches and did a review, choosing to sample one that had Becky Lynch on the front. He gave it a 4/10 score, an apparent nod to WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart, and said it wasn’t like the original WWE ice cream bars, but it wasn’t bad
