Heath Slater Thanks His WWE Family Following Release, Says He Feels “A Fire” That He Hasn’t Had In A While

Former WWE star Heath Slater released a video statement on his Instagram commenting on his departure from the company following massive cuts as a response to the COVID-19 crisis. Slater begins by thanking WWE for providing for his family, and giving him opportunities in the wrestling industry that he couldn’t have received anywhere else.

Man what a ride. What a ride. I’ve literally been everywhere, and I mean everywhere. WWE has provided me and my family with income, so we’ll be okay, and experiences, and opportunities and relationships that would have never happened if I never worked for them. We all have our ups and downs, but who doesn’t? Ultimately WWE fulfilled a dream for me. I have nothing but gratitude for that.

The one-man band then admits that his “fire” in WWE has been fading, but states that “putting everyone else over” can do that to a person. He also states that he feels a fire that he hasn’t had in a while, and is looking forward to spreading his wings once again.

I know that my WWE family, my wife, my kids, and probably a lot of the WWE Universe could see that my fire was fading and that’s all on me. Putting everyone else over all the damn time could take a toll on a man. But that brings me back to relationships I’ve made throughout these last 16 years of pro-wrestling. The outpouring of love, corporate staff, and WWE Universe has been extremely EXTREMELY overwhelming. I’m seeing now that sometimes your accomplishments aren’t always about what you do in the ring, but it’s what you do behind the scenes for the people around you. I had no idea how much love I had until yesterday, and that’s the hardest part of letting go of this chapter of my life. I just want to say thank you to the WWE family.

I also want to say thank you because you gave me 14 years and now…come July 17th…I can spread my wings and fly a little bit. I feel fire again that I didn’t have for a while. I feel…ready to get in shape…legit. I don’t know…I feel hungry again. Very hungry, and I haven’t felt that in a long time. No bullshit…get ready for the encore because I’m going to come back better than I ever was. That’s a fact.
