Kurt Angle Looks Back On Sting Turning Heel In TNA: “Almost Impossible To Make Him A Heel”

TNA Wrestling

Kurt Angle gives his thoughts on Sting.

The Olympic Gold Medal Winner spoke about Sting during the latest edition of his podcast, where recalled the Icon turning heel in TNA in 2008. Despite the effort, Angle says that Sting was still cheered by fans because he had been a babyface for his entire career, especially in WCW.

I don’t think of Sting as a heel. It just doesn’t happen. He was such a babyface his whole entire career. I don’t even know if he turned heel in WCW, not what I can remember. It was really difficult for Sting to do this. He took to it pretty well, but I know that he was uncomfortable because he’s never done it before, and he was always a babyface, and the people always adored him, the fans loved him, so it was a little difficult, I’d imagine, for Sting to do this.

Angle later jokes that it was nearly impossible to make Sting a heel, and that his fellow Hall of Famer would still get cheered by the TNA fans whenever he came out as a solo act even when trying to be a bad guy.

It was almost impossible [laughs]. Whenever he would come out alone, they were cheering him. When we all came out as a group, they booed us somewhat. But Sting, it’s just almost impossible to make him a heel.

Elsewhere on the podcast Angle spoke about the formation of the Main Event Mafia in TNA and what the main focus was for the group. You can read about that here.
