WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle says he has no issue with making a goofball of himself in the ring, and while he’s open to making the occasional cameo appearance, he will not be working another retirement match.

Angle appeared at the RAW 30th Anniversary show last month for a comedy segment with WWE Hall of Famers DX and Imperium. He recently spoke with Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso to promote his role as Celebrity Judge for the PFL Challenger Series MMA event this Friday, and commented on how fun it was temporarily joining the legendary WWE faction. “When I heard what was going to happen, I said, ‘Oh, I’m on board,’” Angle said. “I thought it was going to be a lot of fun working with those guys, and it was. A lot of wrestlers get insecure about making a goofball out of themselves, but it never bothered me. I have a legitimate background, so I always knew people would still take me seriously when I got in the ring. That’s the concern—you don’t want to be too funny or else you won’t be taken so seriously. But my background as an Olympic gold medalist made me different. I was a threat every time I walked in the ring.”

Angle wrapped up his in-ring career with a Retirement Match loss to Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35 in 2019. The 54-year-old Olympic Gold Medalist knows he has fans hoping for one more match, but he said that will not happen.

“I don’t plan on doing another retirement match,” Angle said. “Once you do, you’re never retired—you just keep on going back and doing it over again.”
