Lio Rush recently spoke with Fightful Select to promote his upcoming “Not Found 2” EP release. Rush confirmed that he is still a free agent, despite his recent appearance at the NJPW Capital Collision event in mid-May, where he cut a promo and announced that he still has not been medically cleared to compete, but when he is able to return, the landscape of the NJPW junior heavyweight division will change.

Regarding his free agent status, Rush told Fightful that he likes it that way and prefers to construct things so that they work around his schedule and how he prefers doing things. He spoke about the constant “retirement” digs, and says it does not annoy him, they just aren’t original at this point and seem like a waste of time.

“I’m here and I’m here to stay,” he said, adding that the circumstances of appearing at the recent NJPW event made it feel right for him.

Rush said at first he wanted to separate his music audience from his pro wrestling audience, but he’s found it welcoming to bring both together. He’s also working on some collaborations within wrestling, including recording work he’s doing with Impact Wrestling star Chris Bey.

Rush wanted to make it clear that music isn’t just a side job for him, as it helped out when he signed a record deal. He’s hoping to eliminate the stigma of pro wrestlers in music, as he says there are plenty of talented crossovers there.

Rush has been out of action since January 30, when he suffered a dislocated shoulder in the second round of PWG’s Battle of Los Angeles tournament, while wrestling Buddy Matthews.

In an update on the injury, Rush said he’s nowhere near physically ready to return, and hasn’t even resumed lifting weights yet. Rush said it was demoralizing to suffer the injury after he’d just recently returned from another shoulder injury, only to experience another one so quickly.
