More Backstage Talk on the Weight Cable Spot In the Edge vs. Randy Orton Match at WrestleMania 36

As noted earlier, via Wrestling Observer Radio, there were some people in WWE who were “affected” by the weight cable spot that from the WrestleMania 36 Last Man Standing match between Randy Orton and WWE Hall of Famer Edge, and the match was criticized for that moment. The talk was that Chris Benoit committed suicide with a weight cable, and this was just covered on Vice’s “Dark Side of the Ring” episode, so WWE should’ve known better than to allow the spot in the match.

In an update, it was noted on today’s Observer Radio that the WWE editors are not to blame for the weight cable spot being left in the final edit. The match was reportedly sent to top WWE officials for approval, and someone at the top overruled the others. That led to the spot being left in the show with Orton choking Edge with the weight cable.

There’s no word yet on if the weight cable spot was actually discussed at the top, but apparently they felt like it wasn’t that big of a deal, or didn’t relate to the Benoit tragedy at all.
