New Details On Rob Gronkowski’s Contract and Release

Rob Gronkowski was originally only supposed to work a program for the WWE three times this year. He was set to host WrestleMania, which he did. The other two events are SummerSlam, which we reported back in March, and the Saudi Arabia PPV.

Due to Gronkowski’s release, he won’t be fulfilling the remainder of his dates. The original plan was always for him to host WrestleMania, but he was supposed to have his first match at SummerSlam. There’s no official word on what his role at the Saudi Arabia PPV would have been, but it was likely another match.

The most likely scenario is that he had a clause in his contract that stated he could be released from his commitments if he planned on pursuing football again. He cannot contractually wrestle while signed with NFL and no team would risk that. Gronkowski will be joining Tom Brady in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
