Opening Segment: Dakota Kai vs. Lacey Evans
Evans mocks Kai’s high kicks to start this one. Kai responds with a double leg takedown and bridging pin attempt. Arm drags by Kai. Off the ropes, single leg dropkick! The two women run the corners and Kai trips up Evans for a 2 count. She continues to press hard, forcing Evans to retreat to the corner. She rushes for a high kick but Evans avoids it, and ties Kai into the tree of woe…literally. She uses the tag rope to tie Kai’s leg in place. Swinging Broncobuster!
Evans taunts Kai as the Kiwi gets back to her feet. Axe handles from Evans bring her to the mat for a 1 count. Knee to the back by Evans. Kai trips up Evans and rolls her up for a 2 count. Strong right hand to the torso of Kai. Elbow drop to her back. Evans puts Kai in a weak chinlock, but makes up for it by dragging her chin on Kai’s head.
Evans pulls back on Kai’s arms and drives a knee into her back, in a type of surfboard stretch. Fans get behind Kai’s recovery but Kai remains stretched out with nowhere to go. Kai stands up with the feet still in her back, forcing Evans’ shoulders to the mat for a 2 count, but Evans soon breaks the count and mounts her for a 2 count.
Evans steps on Kai’s chest as she’s on the apron. Slingshot elbow drop for a 2 count. Evans goes up to the second turnbuckle…beauty moonsault but Kai rolls out of the way! The two trade strikes, but it’s Kai with rapid fire kicks that stun Evans. Evans crawls to the opposite turnbuckle. High kicks from Kai to the face of Evans. Facewash kick again. 1-2- kickout!
Kai’s roundhouse kick is countered by a fireman’s carry slam. McGuinness is lamenting how Evans’ face was hurt by Kai’s kicks as both women are slow to continue. Drop toe hold by Evans. Kai misses the enziguri and walks into the Women’s Right. 1-2-3.
Winner: Lacey Evans via pinfall in 9 minutes
One cool point for both women. This was a fine opening match and another indication of a women’s division that is building up some credible contenders to the Women’s Champion, Shayna Baszler. Both Kai and Evans have benefitted from weekly TV promos and matches over the past few months, and, in this match, they both showed they have the chops and stamina for a 10 minute match.
Announce Team Update
Ricochet wants an nXt Championship shot, but, first, he has unfinished business with the Undisputed Era.
They cut to backstage where Ricochet is interviewed. He knows the tag champs are fighting champs, but Adam Cole is not. The last time they fought, Cole had his undisputed chumps get involved. He wants another one-on-one match so he can become the new North American Champion.
A reminder that Bianca Belair is not medically cleared for the #1 Contender’s match for the nXt Women’s Championship, so it will become a triple threat match.
Second Segment: Street Profits, EC3, & Aleister Black/Tommaso Ciampa preview
A promo for the Street Profits, on the basketball court, is shown. They are scrimmaging and doing push-ups, showing their team dynamic.
At a nearby hotel, EC3 is asked about Velveteen Dream when he’s approached for a selfie, which he gladly accepts. To another bystander, he gives them one of his new t-shirts from WWE Shopzone. The next guy who calls out to him is Kona Reeves, who compliments his suit and watch, but in each case, Reeves says his is the finest.
EC3 dishes it back and says he will eat up Reeves and feed him to his cats. EC3 calls him out to fight. Reeves wants EC3 out of his face. Looks like those two will fight very soon.
A video package previews next week’s nXt Championship match between Aleister Black (c) and Tommaso Ciampa, including footage from Takeover: Chicago of both men in their respective matches. Ciampa demanded this match and forced his way into becoming a championship contender.
Third Segment: Kassius Ohno vs. Rick Ramirez
Watson admits that Ohno has been struggling as of late and he needs to rediscover his winning ways tonight. Discus elbow knocks out Ramirez in Ohno’s second offensive manoeuvre. 1-2-3.
Winner: Kassius Ohno via pinfall in 20 seconds.
One cool point for the knockout. That’s a lift for Ohno to get him some TV time. If he can string a few more victories together, it would him make a believable threat in the singles division again.
Time for an Undisputed Era promo where each member brags about the gold they are carrying. Cole says Ricochet’s talking smack about him is a joke. Cole says he doesn’t speak “loser”. He IS a fighting champion though so back off before you get hurt.
Fourth Segment: War Raiders & Velveteen Dream Promos
A promo for the War Raiders, the modern day Vikings, is shown. It tells about their origins as opponents, which led them to team up to hurt everyone else twice as badly as they beat each other up. We learn about the team’s formation, in places like Japan, Europe and Mexico. In 2014, Rowe was in a horrible motorcycle accident. He overcame significant injury to return to the ring. nXt has never seen a force like them before. They look one way and fight another, says Hanson.
Rowe is smaller, yet he is the powerhouse. Hanson is bigger, but he is the high-flyer. They have raided nXt and they’re just getting started.
Backstage, Velveteen Dream returns with a promo, done in the style of his early vignettes, with the atmospheric smoke and purple illumination, interspersed with clips of his in-ring work. At Takeover: War Games, the world said his name. At Takeover: Philly, Dream had a knockout performance. At Takeover: NOLA, he arose to heights you couldn’t even imagine. At Takeover: Chicago, another match of the year.
At Takeover: Brooklyn, the lights will shine brightest with Velveteen in the spotlight.
Final Segment: (#1 Contender Triple Threat for the Women’s Championship) Nikki Cross vs. Candice LeRae vs. Kairi Sane
nXt Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler will be watching this match from the broadcast booth.
Quick roll-up attempts from all 3 women start this match as warring chants from the fans occur in the background. Beauty of a crossbody by Cross on Sane. Strong running forearm by Sane on LeRae knocks her out of the ring. So it’s Cross and Sane. Sane with the chops to bring Cross to the mat. Cross slides out of the ring and swings Sane’s face into the ringpost.
LeRae with a dive through the ropes on Cross. She goes for a second but Cross prevents her with an elbow to the face. Cross traps LeRae in the ring skirt and clobbers her in the back before cozying up to her with a hug.
Cross pulls on LeRae’s chin and hair. 1-2- kickout. She applies a crucifix type stretch to LeRae and then rolls her up for a 2 count. Tree of woe and Cross stomps on LeRae. As she walks away, Sane fires herself with a spear on Cross. She stands on top of the turnbuckle where LeRae is hanging prone to attack…double stomp to the face! 1-2- kickout! Who wants to be the #1 contender?!
Kairi Sane with the Anchor submission and it’s really cinched in until Cross breaks it up! Cross piggybacks on Sane briefly before LeRae dropkicks Sane, and the ladies tumble to the mat. LeRae with a running hip attack on Cross in the corner. To the apron, somersault cannonball splash on Sane to the outside! She rolls Sane back into the ring. Cross retrieves LeRae, pulls her by the hair to the ramp…DDT!
Sane flies from the apron with a Kabuki elbow strike on Cross. All 3 women are laid out on the rampway.
On commentary, Baszler’s not phased in the least. None of this matters or changes the end result with her because none of them will win.
High spot off the turnbuckle. LeRae powerbombs Cross while she suplexes Sane from the top rope! “nXt” chants spill out as the women fight their ways back to their feet. It’s an all-out brawl!
Step-up enziguri by LeRae on Cross. Spinning back fist by Sane on LeRae! She can’t convert. LeRae executes a great combo manoeuvre: DDT/Flatliner on both women. Cross interrupts that pinfall attempt on Sane, pulling LeRae to the apron for a swinging neckbreaker to the floor! “Nikki” chants for that one.
Pace slows down. Cross with a belly to back suplex on Sane. Another belly to back! A third one! Cross stalls for a while with Sane’s head between her legs, as if for a powerbomb. Then, Cross sits Sane up on the turnbuckle. LeRae returns and surprises Cross with a small package pinfall attempt. Vertebreaker! Springboard moonsault! SANE flies with the INSANE elbow on LeRae! 1-2-3!
Winner: Kairi Sane via pinfall in 9 minutes
We will have a rematch between Sane and Baszler! This will be the rubber match for their feud, since Sane beat Baszler in the 2017 MYC, and Baszler beat Sane on nXt TV in February.
One cool point for LeRae who showed off an exciting style and pace to her wrestling. A cool point for Cross who excites the fans and consistently keeps matches fresh with unique offense and facial expressions.
Finally, a cool point for Sane because it didn’t look like she had a chance after enduring a bunch of punishment from both women. She put her body on the line and it paid off. Seeing her fight Baszler again wasn’t a shoe-in for Brooklyn, but there is precedence and the two will hold nothing back. Kairi Sane is your new #1 Contender for the Women’s Championship!
