Triple H Provides an nXt Championship Update

Very appreciative Full Sail crowd for Triple H’s arrival out to the ring. He’s carrying the nXt Championship belt. He lets the crowd cheer and chant “nXt” before beginning with saying how special this place is.

Dreams become possibilities in this ring. The reality, though, is some dreams end. He was planning to announce a match, years in the making, between Johnny Gargano and nXt Champion Tommaso Ciampa.

Unfortunately, Ciampa’s injury will not permit that to occur. The dream has been put on hold due to neck injury. Therefore, Ciampa relinquishes the nXt Championship.
When one dream ends, another dream begins. Johnny Gargano will still go to New York to compete for the nXt Championship. Tonight, we will find out who his opponent will be in a 5-man #1 Contender’s Match:

Ricochet vs. Adam Cole vs. Aleister Black vs. Velveteen Dream (NAc) vs. Matt Riddle

Crowd chants for Dream and Riddle.

Also, the nXt Championship match, in April, will be a best 2 out of 3 falls match.

Afterwards, Cathy Kelley is discussing the mood backstage regarding the main event. Kona Reeves walks out of the men’s dressing room and says that match will be alright, but not the finest.

Forgotten Sons walk through the door next and they say next week is more important. They hope Aleister Black and Ricochet do well because then, their minds won’t be on the Dusty Classic. Then, they can win and face War Raiders at Takeover. Ryker says we will be forgotten no more.

Billie Eilish’s song “you should see me in a crown” is one of the official Takeover: New York theme songs.

Hyping the Main Event & Ciampa’s Surgery

A promo is shown for Ricochet and Aleister Black and their new tag team.

This is followed by a promo by Velveteen Dream who claims tonight will be “Dream Over” for many, and the first step towards nXt having its first double champion.

nXt cameras documented Tommaso Ciampa’s arrival to the Birmingham Hospital. The surgeon discusses having seen Ciampa for knee surgery and shoulder surgeries, from which he successfully recovered.

The recovery will be roughly a year. We see Ciampa’s wife and baby girl visiting him in the hospital as well. His incredible resolve and dedication to his craft is mentioned by the surgeons.

Matt Riddle delivers a promo where he says he’s worked his ACE off to be undefeated. He’s gonna win this match tonight, bro.
A highlight package of Adam Cole and the Undisputed Era is shown briefly before Cole speaks with his brothers behind him. He says he will be announced as the new nXt Champion at Takeover: New York, just 2 years after his debut.

Io Shirai & Kairi Sane Interviewed

Io Shirai and Kairi Sane are interviewed by Cathy Kelley. They say they will watch the match with great anticipation. Shirai says nothing will come between their friendship, not even this fatal four-way match. If they need to, they will fight against one another.

Bianca Belair interrupts them and says neither one of them should be going to Takeover. This has nothing to do with Sane. Belair would’ve beat Shirai, if not for Baszler’s interference. She will be the next nXt Women’s Champion because, in her mind, she is still un-de-feat-ed.

Another official theme song for Takeover: New York is “Are You Ready” by Disturbed.

Next week, we will see the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals. The winner will face nXt Tag Team Champions War Raiders at Takeover: New York.

Main Event- Fatal Five-Way #1 Contender’s Match

Noteworthy that Aleister Black is last to come out, being the only former nXt champion in the match.
Ranallo says this is the first time the nXt Championship has been vacated due to injury.

Highlights include:

Black catches Dream with a beauty high kick to the face, gets tripped up at the ropes by Cole but plants him on the arena floor.
We’ve got a number of one on one’s in the ring: Ricochet and Dream, Riddle and Ricochet, where Riddle shows off his strength with multiple sidewinder suplexes. Ricochet rolls out and in comes Cole.

Cole, Black and Ricochet are in the ring, where Black and Ricochet briefly team up on Cole. Fans cheer as they stare each other down. Handshakes and they square off, but Cole returns to the ring and pushes Ricochet into Black, knocking Black right out of the ring.

Cole keeps Black out with a kick to the head at the turnbuckle. 2 count on Ricochet.
Dream flies from the top turnbuckle to the outside…double axe handle on Adam Cole! Fans are loving it. He then flies into a release German suplex by Riddle.
Riddle puts Black into the Bromission. Black’s struggling! Dream rushes back in to break the hold.

Flurry of kicks and knees by Black on Dream. Springboard moonsault off the ropes takes out Dream and Cole. 2 count on Dream.
Flurry of superkicks and knee strikes by all five men leaves them all hurting on the mat. Fans chant “nXt” in response.

Ricochet’s up on his feet first. He labours to ascend the turnbuckle and gets halted by Adam Cole. Cole sets up for a superplex. Dream clubs both men and he ascends to the second rope. Ricochet fights back. Now all four men are on the second rope with Ricochet seated on the top turnbuckle…SUPERPLEX! Ricochet appears to have gotten the worst of that.
Everyone rolls out except Black and Dream, who begin to punch one another.

Bridging German suplex by Black on Dream. Riddle with a senton on Black, followed by a suplex slam for a 2 count. Cole and Riddle now square off. Nasty superkick by Cole on Riddle. Kneecap brainbuster! That pinfall attempt is broken by Ricochet.

The Final Flurry

Reverse rana by Ricochet on Cole impresses the announcers and the crowd. Tumbling back flip splash over the top rope from Ricochet. Wow! Looks like it hurt him too because he doesn’t return to the ring. Instead, it’s Dream and Riddle. Dream counters a powerbomb but can’t avoid a loud knee strike to the face by Riddle. Bro-mission attempt, but Cole pulls out the referee from the ring.

BLACK MASS on Riddle! Dream Valley Driver on Black! Dream’s going up to the top rope.

Ricochet leaps out of nowhere and hurricanranas Dream off the turnbuckle to the floor. Now the One and Only hits a shooting star press on Riddle. 1-2- Cole breaks the count by hitting Ricochet with a Last Shot! He covers Ricochet for the surprise victory!

Winner: Adam Cole via pinfall in 15 minutes

Cole will wrestle where the Undisputed Era was born two years ago, in Brooklyn, NY. He poses by the title, on the stage, to close the show.

2 cool points for the standout wrestlers of the match: Ricochet and Adam Cole. No surprise that they were involved in the finish. Their decisions and the effects of their offense were consistently turning points in the match. Ricochet’s decisions to fly to the outside or interrupt pinning attempts kept him close to winning throughout the match. Adam Cole’s referee interference, along with his use of the superkick was timely and sneaky. No one else employed that type of strategy in this match, and it worked.

Also, I’m absolutely going to take a moment to celebrate picking Cole to face Gargano last week, without the knowledge of spoilers from FSU.
1 cool point for Riddle, Dream and Black, who all had moments to shine where it was believable that they could win the match.
Think we might yet see Riddle vs. Dream at Takeover: New York, based on who’s available to challenge. That feud has already been set up by their backstage disagreement last week.

Exciting times in nXt. Just 3 weeks away from one of the most exciting weekends of wrestling annually.
Share your ideas on what will happen in the Takeover: New York (not Brooklyn) card, as well as the Dusty Classic, and more!
