WWE reportedly had plans for the Nexus stable to return at WrestleMania 36.
Former WWE Superstar Darren Yougn recently appeared on The VP Show podcast, as seen below, and revealed that WWE planned to bring the Nexus stable back at WrestleMania 36, before it was nixed from Tampa and moved to the crowd-less closed-set WWE Performance Center due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“If Nexus would’ve come back… and who knows what would’ve happened, but we were scheduled to come back for WrestleMania. Yeah, this year’s WrestleMania in Tampa,” Young said.
Nexus arrived in WWE back in 2010, made up of participants from the first season of NXT. The group attacked John Cena, CM Punk, Matt Striker, Justin Roberts and WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler during the June 7, 2010 RAW, and went on to feud with top WWE Superstars. The original group featured Young, Wade Barrett, Daniel Bryan, Ryback, Justin Gabriel, David Otunga, Heath Slater and Michael Tarver. They would be joined by Bray Wyatt and Curtis Axel later on. The stable was disbanded in August 2011.
It’s interesting that Young revealed these plans as @Wrestlevotes previously reported that WWE had a major storyline planned for this spring and summer, but it was nixed due to the pandemic. Officials reportedly came up with a lengthy major storyline that was to unfold over the span of several weeks during the spring and summer of this year, and it was noted that the storyline was to play out similar to how the Vince McMahon limousine explosion or the Nexus invasion did.
