The Undertaker Talks Doing Make-A-Wish In Character, Getting In Touch With His Faith, Being Mentally Strong

WWE superstar The Undertaker was recently interviewed by GQ to promote the next episode of his Last Ride documentary series. Highlights from the interview can be found below.

On the amount of Make-A-Wishes he did:

It came pretty easily for me to separate it and to put it as the Undertaker side of me. Them wanting to meet the Undertaker, right, which is synonymous with death and their mortality and everything. I was always like, ‘Are you sure they want me?’ and they were like, ‘Yeah, they were very adamant that they wanted you.’ I guess the Undertaker kind of made it acceptable I guess in some cases to be OK with it. Not to get too deep.

On getting older and becoming more in touch with his faith:

As I’ve gotten older I’ve gotten more in touch with my faith and that overrides everything else. I think maybe early on I might have looked at death as, ‘I’m impervious to that,’ as asinine as that sounds, but as you get older and you lose people that are important to you, it still hurts and I haven’t figured out how to… There’s nothing I’ve done professionally that helps that any way for sure.

Having mental toughness to avoid injuries:

If you have the mental toughness to block that kind of stuff out, that’s great. But also, are you putting yourself in more jeopardy? If you don’t look at things realistically, you have potential to really injure yourself, thinking, ‘I used to do that all the time. It won’t be any problem,’ and then you’re just physically not able to do it. You run the risk of injuring yourself and you risk injuring your opponent.
