Updated Reports from the Scene of the Search for Shad Gaspard

People at the location where former WWE Superstar Shad Gaspard went missing in the ocean on Sunday are reporting that it’s not looking good, according to Dave Meltzer on Twitter and Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio. Another source at the site noted to Meltzer, “Bleak is probably an optimistic term.”

The search for Gaspard resumed at around noon ET today. One person at the scene noted to Meltzer that it wasn’t looking good, and then a few hours later a friend to Shad, who was at the beach where the search was underway, noted that it was “officially over” and that authorities were “packing up” the search.

It should be noted that there has been no official announcement from authorities on the search being called off, and there has been no official update on Shad’s condition. Stay tuned as we will update you when an official update is available.

As noted, via TMZ, Gaspard went missing during a swim at Venice Beach in California on Sunday out with his 10 year old son. Shad and his son were among a group of swimmers caught in a strong rip current at around 4pm local time. Lifeguards raced into the water to pull everyone out and while Shad’s son was rescued. Officials spent several hours desperately searching for the 39 year old Gaspard, and then resumed that search today. Divers and helicopters have been used in the search. The LA Fire Department believed Gaspard “did submerge” in the water, and one witness at the scene told TMZ that Gaspard directed rescuers to help his son first when lifeguards raced into the ocean, which they did, adding that during the rescue another large wave reportedly crashed down on Gaspard, and that was the last time he was seen.

Below is a photo taken on Sunday before the incident, along with local news coverage of the search & rescue. Stay tuned for more on Shad.
