NJPW superstar and former IWGP Junio Heavyweight champion Will Ospreay recently spoke with Chris Van Vilet to discuss his Twitter feud with WWE’s Seth Rollins from nearly a year ago. In the back and forth Rollins made a comment about WWE wrestlers making far more money than any other promotion, a statement that was received with backlash from wrestlers and fans alike. Rollins would eventually apologize.
Ospreay believes that Raw Executive Director Paul Heyman was a reason for Rollins apology.
He apologized. I WON A TWITTER FIGHT! I went from being the worst guy on Twitter to…probably still (at the bottom) but at least I’m not the worst guy on Twitter anymore,” said Ospreay in an interview with Chris Van Vliet. “I heard rumors that Paul Heyman told him to apologize. Heyman is a big supporter of mine. I don’t know if that’s true. There’s rumors going around backstage and I’ve got guys who are friends with Seth Rollins in New Japan who told me this. I don’t know if it’s true, but it sounds about right. I’ve never met Seth at all. I’ve always been a fan of him when he was in Ring of Honor. When he said that, at first, I didn’t think anything of it. ‘Whatever, he makes more money, good on him.’ But I was reading it over and over and was like, ‘He kind of did slag me off a little, didn’t he?’ Calling me a shit version of Ricochet. ‘Well, that hurt.’ (Making more money) doesn’t make you better. No one is better in wrestling. It’s a cooperative sport. At the end of it, if someone apologized, I let it go. Next time we’re in the same area, if he comes to Tokyo with WWE, let’s go get dinner. I don’t like holding grudges.
Ospreay goes on to say that he would love to work with Rollins in the future, and recalls his apology crushing any ongoing beef between the two.
When the Ricochet match came out, he did speak highly of it. And I was very thankful for that. I’m sure I’ve said if I could wrestle anyone in WWE, it would be him. The fact that he publicly apologized, that’s all I care about. I don’t need a DM like ‘uhhh, I’m sorry.’ It’s banter. At the end of it, I sold a lot of t-shirts. He made me loads of money. Cheers.
