WWE took legal action against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on February 16 to stop the release of a contract between WWE and San Antonio. The contract, which WWE says is a secret, could reveal details about the 2023 Royal Rumble at the Alamodome.

WWE’s move came after Wrestlenomics tried to get information about the event. The city was allowed to keep the contract secret until January 17, 2024, when an Assistant Attorney General said WWE hadn’t proven the contract was confidential.

The government has given WWE millions in subsidies for events like the Royal Rumble. The Attorney General’s change of heart seems to be because of a second records request from Intelligence Options, LLC, before October 12, 2023. The city had previously been granted permission to withhold the bidding contract by the state Attorney General’s office in April 2023. However, this decision was reversed on January 17, 2024, by Assistant Attorney General Michelle Garza, who stated that WWE had not provided sufficient evidence to demonstrate that the information was confidential under Texas’s public information law.
